RE: Nerve pain question
Bummer,
try a small 1/2 round pillow under your knees when you lay down. Got 1 for DH and seems to help by taking strain off lower back.

DH had posterior spinal decompresion, Bi-Lateral laminectomy L3-S1, Excision of L4-5 on L/side. 2/07

RE: Nerve pain question
Bummer, what is your dose of Lyrica? I think I remember you saying you take it. Both Neurontin and Lyrica have helped my nerve pain. I take 150 mg. when I get up, and then 150 mg. when I go to bed.

I also just started using a TENs machine 12 hrs. a day and it really helps me get my mind off the pain. It creates a whole different kind of feeling like constant tingling. Kind of annoying, but better than constant pain.

My RSD is upper extremity though.

Hope you find some answers soon. Take care!

RE: Nerve pain question
chrischris

I decided to go on Neurotin rather then Lyrica. I do have a tens unit and have used it although it has not helped me.

Problem with nerve pain....there is no controlling it.

RE: Nerve pain question
NERVE PAIN..............yep got it.............sounds a lot like yours Bk

and ksgirl: sounds as if we have very similar areas/types of injury

am on neurontin up to 1200 mg a day; no side effects that I can identify but with all that's going on who can tell? LOL

i know one thing; i'm about ready to chew my leg off and throw it out the window!

the support under knees does help as dh's honey says but "help" is a relative term.....................

i'm always in pain all that varies is the type and its' position on that 1-10 scale...............can we make it the 1-1 million scale?

RE: Nerve pain question
hell some of us passed the 1-10 scale a long time ago I like to tell my doc giving him a 1-10 rating with my back, neck and head is like trying to tell a nun what the pain scale is on having a baby...it just cant be done we the injured workers of america need to come up with a different one using chewing off the body part as the number 5 and having major surgery awake and aware as a 10....I will leave that to those of you whos brains can still spell

;)Workmans comp is not a road you want to travel alone. You need a good lawyer,a great family and good friends to lean on.If you make it thru without losing everything you have worked for all your life, you have come out ahead of the game.....Smile

RE: Nerve pain question
Thank you for the information. I do have most of the symptoms of RSD but will leave it up to my doctor to make the diagnosis. He is an osteopath and very well informed, he has no problem with making referrals to specialist.

RE: Nerve pain question
Bummer,
I hope this all gets figured out for you. I take Lodine(NSAID), Ultram(for pain), Cymbalta (for nerve pain and spasms) and Zanaflex(muscle relaxer). I have had the most relief from this current combination of meds. I also continue to use my TENS unit on the low back and left buttock area. I haven't tried it on the neck or shoulder. I will be seeing a surgeon about my neck on the 21st. I recently started Lunesta for sleep, but still end up waking several times a night.

When I asked my Ortho about other test, such as discograms or mylograms for my lower back, he told me that they feel from the Lumbar MRI that there is nothing that can be done, and that those test were for before they do surgery, which the said they can't do on my lumbar spine. This was also when he told me that since the ESI's didn't help that he wasn't going to be my treating doctor anymore, but my PM doctor will be, and that the lower back will continue to deteriate(sp?) with time.

Keep us informed as to what you find out. I still think that other test are available and are not only for prior to surgery. I wish you the best Dear, you have been thru so much already. I'm hoping and praying that this year will be the one that all of our forum family, gets the help we need and get as healthy as possible. Also to get as painfree (what's that) as possible.

Take care
Vickie
