simple question

I have a simple question that I am having trouble finding answers to.

First of all, I know nothing about workers comp.

I have a small injury: I have been doing carpentry work and 2 days ago I got a very bad splinter in my hand. I pulled it out thinking no more of it. But this morning I realized there is still a big peice( about 1 in inch long) deep in my hand.
My questions is 1) workers comp will pay if I need to have it removed? 2) How long can I wait before going to a doctor? its not that bad an I am inclined to let it be if I can unless it becomes infected, but I dont want to get stuck paying for it if it should be covered.

My opinion is that you should notify your employer immediately and file a claim. Whether you ever have to use it or not it will be on record. Also I would seek medical attention immediately BEFORE it gets infected and you have bigger problems. Good luck.

If the injury occured as a result of your work then you are entitled to work comp benefits including necessary medical treatment. the time limits for filing are state specific; there is no universal rule.

one inch long? wow I would be screaming bloody hell.....are we using mens measurements or womens ?cuz men think an inch is 6 and so forth dont cha know ladies

thanks for the info everyone, I did notify my employer, and I think I will see a doctor. btw the piece thats still in there is literally 1 inch long, I can feel it underneath, right in the soft spot between my thumb and forefinger.

Splinter - I used to stain alot of wood and had the same problem. Mine went so deep I didn't even realize the majority was still in there until it festered and popped one night while gambling. My finger had been extremely sore and difficult to move and was swollen and hot, but I thought it was a result of the chemicals I was using getting in the 'wound'. Once it 'popped' the splinter literally oozed out on its own...don't wait like I did, go to the doc it will become even more painful.

I would get that taken care of asap. When i worked in a hospital and there was a woman that was in the hospital with a infection from one of them SOS pads ( metal) that had a piece get into her thumb. It caused such a bad infection that she got blood poisoning.

So i say, get that taken care of now, before you end up in the hospital hooked up to a IV with antibiotics.
