Going to school

Going to school
I enrolled in 2 online courses today, Business Math & Exceptional Child.

The first clas is more for review, a class I've taken in the past.
The 2nd class is more for continuing education credits.
I'm afraid what my employer will do if I don't keep up with the required continnuing education courses for my job.
I don't want to give them a reason to terminate me from employment and stop my wc benifits. Although my employer has made the statement they will never work me with restrictions.

I do hope I can keep up with the courses, guess it depends how I feel. This may be one way to speed up the judge's decision on the knee replacement.

RE: Going to school
Bummer - online classes are awesome, I actually prefer them over regular "gotta get up and get there somehow" classes, LOL. I do a lot of mine in the middle of the night when I can't sleep, keeps me occupied and sometimes it even manages to take my mind off the pain.

I know you will do well girl. Have you ever taken online courses before? If I can do anything to help please let me know although I usually get asked when I'm not here...Murphy's Law and all that Smile

If you have a desktop computer and can afford it I highly recommend getting a large flat screen monitor. I splurged last year and bought a 22" HP (HP w22). This is how I can drive you guys nuts...the screen is large enough to have two sites open at once (well, I have to squish them a bit but not much). I can do homework on one half and bug you guys on the other Smile

RE: Going to school
Hello Monster

Yes, I have taken online classes in the past and do prefer them to the traditional classroom.

One reason I take online courses is it would be difficult for me to sit in a classroom due to nerve & knee pain.

When I enrolled today I had to be very careful, we had an ice storm last night and most of the campus sidewalks were clean although there were some icy spots.
I walk with a cane and am not to stable on my feet with any type of damp weather.

RE: Going to school
Comgrats Bummer! I have found that I am really enjoying learning. I also like the online classes better than at school. I seem to learn better teaching myself. I know one thing, I am so thankful that I used some of my student loan to get a laptop. There was no way I could have sat at a desk these last two semesters. For once I was thinking ahead.

I was also going to say that my employer had said there was no way they would accomodate any of my restrictions. They felt that way until I was put at MMI and then I think the IC made them them take me back.

RE: Going to school
Monster

I use a scooter if I have much shopping or going somewhere that requires lots of walking, other then that I use a cane. I think the nerve pain is causing me more problems then the knees right now.

It has been over 2 yrs since that the treating doctor told me that I need a knee replacement, one year later I learned I need bilateral replacements.

Work comp is refusing to pay for the surgeries by saying it is pre-existing, I broke my leg in the late 70's and had my knee checked out at the time of the 70's accident and was told it was okay. I have never been to a doctor for my knees so I was taken my suprise when wc said pre-existing.

Early November the judge sent me for an IME doctor to determine if the wc injury accelerated my pre-existing condition. Court was the end of November and the judge was to make a decision within 5 working days if wc pays for surgery, still no word.

The altered gait has caused problems with my hip and low back.
We will be having a hearing to add my back to my claim, I have documentation linking the back to the knees. I question whether my high blood pressure should also be added. BP has been 144/92 and norm for me is 110/80 doctor says the increase is due to the increase in pain.

RE: Going to school
Bummer,
Good luck with your classes. I want to do some online classes also. I have never done any, so I'm not sure what to pick to start with. I'm thinking medical coding and billing, but am not sure.
The blood pressure thing may be because of your pain levels, mine has been elevated for awhile 160/93 when it always was around 110/70 or 117/77, my pulse rate has been also running around 100 or more. My doctors have said many times it is from the pain levels. I hope that is all it is.
Take care
Vickie
