RE: new med
I tried the patches but I am a control person I want to be in control of my pain meds and with that patch I wasnt...I have never had a day where I havent needed pain meds but I have decided how much and how often I like that...others dont have to have that much control over things in their life but I always have been that way about everything....

;)Workmans comp is not a road you want to travel alone. You need a good lawyer,a great family and good friends to lean on.If you make it thru without losing everything you have worked for all your life, you have come out ahead of the game.....Smile

RE: new med
Jayne you are 100% correct, thats the way I am as well with meds... Thats why I fear the patch, I am trying this morphine er in hopes I dont have to keep taking percocets... If my mind is not right for dominicks sake, I will stop the morphine.. I am about 7 hrs in and have not felt the side effects like the percocets except for a little ringing in the ears...

I guess your pain tolerance is higher than mine. I hurt 24/7 and need a steady control to have quality of Life. I have to go to PM monthly but to me it is all about quality of Life. Everyone is different.

If you take the 12 hour Morphine ER like you are suppose to, It is the same as wearing the Fentanyl patch because you want 24/7 relief right?

I know the Fentanyl patch is not for everybody. I drive, I have 2 grandchildren ages 4 and 2 that I see almost daily and play with them. I have my Wife's dinner ready every night and keep the house "fairly" clean; It is almost 3000 sq feet.

I could not do these things above without my Fentanyl Patch; I tried and I need the constant relief.

Ambien was a bitch to get off of. I went from 10 to 5 breaking them in half and then cold turkey. It was not easy at all; many sleepless nights but I kicked it.

Lyrica was the worse to get off of. I suffered weining this drug.

Celebrex was no problem to quit.

In a sense I guess its the same, my dr only wants me to take 1 per day. So I figure in the mornings other than being stiff I will hold off til atleast 10/11 am. The number of percocets has been downed, only alowed 2 per day so I will pop 1 in the morning and one in the afternoon for breakthrough relief..

In the last hour or so I have been feeling a bit dizzy I cant blame it on the morphine yet but will watch it tomorow... Does this med tend to work better as the days go on...? I have noticed alot more relief today, wouldnt mind just a bit more..

RE: new med
I had a long talk with my Dr he has always been truthful with me.Yes I have a hi pain tolerance it has come from years of this pain but My Dr also explained to me that I will get used to pain meds and need a higer dose if I take them all the time my body will get used to them and they wont work as well....I use many methods of pain control not just narcs and once meds have been taken I dont drive....never would I take even the smallest chance that my meds would cause an accident...I know you been on them for years and your Dr says you are just fine but answer me this...if it breaks the pain what else does it break in your mind .....I would never be able to live with the quilt if my meds caused an accident that took a life or caused someone else pain....So I wont do it its a small enough price to pay in my mind....I dont drive much at all anyhow Pain clouds my judgement...so I am a passenger most of the time.

RE: new med
I agree with you Jayne, my wife is the driver now.. If I have somthing comming up and I know ahead of time I dont take my narcs the night before if I must drive.... I can no longer drive a clutch, my left leg cramps and spasms but i can handle a automatic.. To some people it dosnt effect thier driving and you can be tested from the D.O.T. to clear the no driving restrictions... Here in wi it is under the influence with or with out that test... Although mentaly I feel fine I wont take that chance either...

RE: new med
The meds I take are prn. The doctors encourage me take them on a regular cycle but I need to be able to drive, no public transportation service in the country so I only take the meds at night or when I really need them and am not driving.

The pain patches I am on are the Lidodern pain patches. They work well for when I am away from home and need some pain relief until I get home.

I have not started the arthritis meds yet, I believe the doctor wants to wait until the testing on the esphogus cames back. The reason for that test is because I have trouble swallowing, food get caught, can't get it up or down. If I sit in the massage chair and massage the back it helps move the food. I have other issues with the mid back, sharp stabbing pains and and very bad muscle spasms.

I don't think I need the upper GI test but I am not the doctor so I will have it done. My opinion the trouble with the mid back comes from years of lifting my disable daughter and her wheel chair. never had a wheel chair lift, couldn't afford it.

RE: new med
we all have different ways of coping none of them are bad just different....I dont have a problem giving the driving over to my husband and daughter it is safer in my opinion and with that and a buck fifty you can buy a cup of coffee in a coffee shop here in town.My favorite way when the pain is bad is to go to my happy place a heated mattress pad lots of quilts the A/C in my room down to 50 and the room dark and my mind blank....if I catch it early a oxy can take me to my childhood when my sister and I ran and played in the desert or where ever my mind wants to go...this takes complete quiet and consentration to get and stay there.....no one is allowed to come in the room and wake me.....after a couple of hours my entire body is relaxed and I am able to continue with my life....does this always work? no sometimes I let the pain get to bad before I go here I am a stubborn heifer and get bounced on my fanny often...

RE: new med
Driving is not a issue with me IMO. I drive a 200 mile round trip every month to PM. I have been on the same dosage of Narcotics since 2006. My mind is 40X clearer than a 75+ individual who cannot hear or see but there License are renewed thru the mail.

It's like saying a person who smokes should not drive due to impairment. Everyone knows that cigarettes is a legalized drug that gives the smoker a High and it is very addictive.

If it was illegal, I would not Drive. I do not compare myself to a drunk by any means. I have nothing to prove pain wise by not driving. I have discussed this at length with my Doctors and they agree my Drugs are under control and I can drive without impairment.

Everyone is different. It takes time for ones body to adjust to their meds this I agree with. Maybe 2 weeks and then everything falls in line.

If I am in a wreck and found to be impaired then my ass is mud. I am not impaired so I have no concerns. My meds are controlled meds.
