I got a call from a Vocational Rehab person to meet him next week at a coffee shop . Is this normal . I am not used to taking my business to a public place at lunch time where there will be people all around. He said he didn't have an office. I am still under medical care and awaiting an appeal for more medical care. I have not yet received any restrictions for my injuries and have been awarded ssdi back to 2006. What is this all about? My attorney said to go to it.
He also said not to complain about what I can't do. Any advice?

A lot of Voc Rehab people are sole practitioners that work out of their house. If that is the case here, the request to meet at a coffee shop would not be unusual. I would have assumed that your attorney would know something about this, or could at least find out to confirm the legitimacy of who the person says they are. They may have been hired to evaluate you, or to help identify a position you can handle within your restrictions. At any rate, it is probably fine. Just follow the same common sense you would anywhere else. Make sure it is a public place, and never meet strangers in isolated locations.

read the ground rules and/or guidelines of your state's voc rehab benefits. realistic expectations can improve the process.

Met with Vocational Rehab guy all he was using was the two reports from the IME doctors from the Insurance company . When I asked him why he didnt have my doctors reports he said they would say the same .
I wanted him to have all the reports and then we could start this Rehab. Very pushy kept wanting to move ahead using the two IME reports. One of these dr said I did not need surgery two years ago. I have had two surgeries ordered by the judge. I know my doctors have a differant opinion than these IME quacks.
Now he says I am not cooperating and took 5 minutes to complain how I was wearing my splint .
If I questioned or commented on anything his answer was I am being to negative. He really gave no assistance or suggestions just a lot of degrading, His one comment was " people on workers comp tend to want to just put thier feet up and collect money" does this tell you how negative he is.
Oh well I have been on researching any jobs I could find today and of couse nothing. Oh yes, the fact that there is no jobs is my fault also it doesnt have anything to do with the ecomony.
I have no qualifications except what I have learned on my old job of 15 years. I always got my jobs because I was phsically able and worked very hard.
I have a feeling this mans job is to harrass you to the point you walk away and then the insurance company isnt responsible.
Sorry so long but I needed to vent.

put your complaints in writing to the carrier and to the rehab vendor if they are with a rehab service. Request another counselor. use direct quotes whenever possible. save a copy.
when meeting with them in the future have a third party present or record the meeting.
after reading the VR rules you can also point out violations.

Hi Queen, I'm Sorry I didn't Reply to You Sooner! Approx. a Month ago, I had to go through the Voc. Rehab. Interview, and My Attorney with My Approval held the Meeting in My Home, and He was Present Here with Me to Make Sure I only answered what I should! He has Worked with this Rehab. Gentleman Many Times Before, and He was Very Professional and Courteous. As We went along with the Process, especially when I brought Out My Meds. for Him to Write Down, He Looked at My Attorney and Said: "What am I even doing Here, this Man can't Work!!" He said that Twice during the Interview, but also Made it Clear that He has a Job to do, and He is going to do the Best He can for His Employer, in which I Replied: You Seem Like a Gentleman that would do No Less." I haven't had a Job Offer Yet, I'm Sure They are going to Come, or a Labor Market Survey will be Completed, but They don't know the "Ace in the Hole" I Have, so This should be a Pretty Exciting Part in My Case for Me! Sorry to Ramble, but Maybe Your Attorney can be with You at Your Next Interview as Mine was, and in a Place More Comfortable for You!! My Best to You, and I Hope it Goes Better the Next Time!

Good suggestions my daughter was with me and I explained have short term memory loss, she was told she can be there for testing but not during the actual job search. He also informed me I am not allowed to tape anything, he doesnt allow it.
He made two comments about my daughter taking notes.
He also daid to me twice what are we doing here, I said because the insurance wanted it done. He also wants to schedule an FCE but has only given me 2 facilities to choose from . I found one closer on the govt list and he took the information and want to check it out. He likes to use the other two. I asked him if I had a choice and he said yes but not to do anything until he checks them out.
My gut feeling is this is not a good thing I am going thru but I will try to accomodate what he wants no matter how many times he threatens to write a report about my lack of cooperation.
I am wondering just how many people with disabilities are hired in thier position.

Just be Very Sure Your Attorney is Kept in the Loop, and Any Info. You Receive They get a Copy of!!! Here in Pa., They are not Working for the w/c Commission, They are Working for the Ins. Co., therefor They are not Required to Send any Copies to My Attorney, so I have to Keep Him in the Loop!! That's Why He was Here for Me, so that the Voc. Rehab. Person could See that He is going to be around and Involved! You may want to Discuss what I have just Written with Your Attorney, just to be Safe!!
