State Disability Insurance applying for State Disability benefits

Repeat Question: What is QME all about? I have not even received TTD benefits yet, as my WC insurance has sent out a delay letter. I am going on 6 weeks now post injury. true dx/prognosis not given yet, still waiting on auth for ortho consult. have not posted lately, because to add to my WC troubles my apt flooded this week and I am currently displaced. Plus I started faxing and mailing out letters to my creditors explaining my situation and asking for extension of time to make payments. What a horrible feeling that gave me.

here's info on california QME process
http://www.dir.ca.gov/dwc/FactSheets/FactSheet_E.pdf
http://www.dir.ca.gov/dwc/MedicalUnit/QME_page.html

good on the early alerts to creditors. you should feel good about giving advanced warning -it doesn't happen often in their business.

when even injured workers blame themselves it's no wonder others do.

P.S. this thread is too long for me so I probably won't be back on this one to help with future california questions.

Hello gang just thought I would update: I received the QME list of 3 Dr's to choose from have till Sat to make a choice. Still no TTD benefit payments as my case remains delayed by the WC insurance. I was approved for a very small amt and I mean small amt of State Disability but it is better than no money. I was denied Food Stamps because the State Disability is too much money. Go figure, the amt of State Disability does not even amt to a month's rent but it is too much. I am still out of my apt due to water damage and have no idea when that will be repaired. My landlord has not communicated with me in regards to both the flood damage and working with me on the rent while I await work comp decision. Still waiting on Orthopedic consult authorization. I actually saw an MD at the clinic yesterday and he said my pain is related to the herniated discs related to the work injury and told me I needed that Ortho consult. They stopped my Physical Therapy because it aggravated the pain too much. I am going to meet with a lawyer tomorrow so I will see what he says. Anybody have info on how best choose from the QME list and how to prepare for that? I suppose the lawyer could help me with that as well I hope, I am so dazed and confused. Do all workman's comp cases take this long and longer to settle? It is now exactly 7 weeks post injury and counting.

I know, I have been reading the comments, I was just hoping for that 1 sliver of light at the end of the tunnel. 7 weeks seems like an eternity so I can only imagine what 5yrs+ seems like.

so sorry I had no right to laugh at you because this is important to you......all I can say is the sooner you accept you are not a living breathing person who needs a paycheck to stay alive but a number on a file...the better off you will be..while there are hundreds of good caring adjusters out there (please dont let that be a lie)they can only do so much....I do not know for a fact but I believe we are on a tier system if you can be fixed with a Dr appt a RX and less than 5 PT appts...you sail right thru..if you present at the ER with lots of blood and gore and many a witness you sail thru the beginning of the process...if you got a bone sticking out of the skin you get fixed......its when its a case that isnt showing on the outside or its gonna cost them time and money to fix ya you get the adjuster from hell whos sole job is to make your life a living hell.....and that isnt fair....yes I know there are a lot of fakers out there with "oh my aching back" I cant work that just kill it for the rest of us......My case was proved with a disc o gram...I do not know the cost of this test but I bet it was less than all the other crap that they put me thru for 2 years or the 2 years WC pay if that had been one of the first tests given I could have been fixed and back to work.....and believe me that test is not fun.......but it proved all I had been saying all along......
Its been a strange ride....the WC system is broken...it is run by crooked lawyers and Doctors on both sides.....I dont have all the answers but maybe it could be fixed a bit more if we as injured workers were allowed to sue when it is proven that their delays for medical help made things worse...when the adjuster"forgets" to mail your check out on fri but will mail it out on tuesday of the following week......and you get the power turned off for her little memory problem...or when the IC doesnt hire enough adjusters to do the job right and your adjuster has 100 files on her desk....and they just cant keep up....so many reasons for the mess its in...I dont have any answers for you......and from what I hear California is a strange duck all by its self...2 years on my claim start to finish.....and the reason it was so fast was the judge sent me to her Doc and he said because of the delayed medical treatment I was made worse....and she had her doc rate me.... and threw in a big ol fine for their mismanagement of my claim...it was pay up within 30 days of the agreement or more fines......the day I went to court to have the judge sign off the other side had the checks ready to hand to the judge......

Wink Thought I had left ya, didn't you. Spent all of last week in ICU in Upstate, NY. Between the wkly p/t again and a slightly stubborn attitude my little body shut down. Thank God my husband had the day off. I was so sick but I had just to finish a few more tasks and bang. The oxygen had been turned off. I remember very little, the whole week before the breathing stopped I remembered a lung infection and that is about it. I should have remembered the ditty about running like hell! After 4 full years my claim was closed out and I am now totally disabled with Medicare. But I have always been super independent and kept feeling like a failure. So I won my last battle but almost lost the war. So Stop. Sit down. Now cry and dont stop til you are back in control. Now take this seriously, if you croak, you know darn well nobody will want to walk that dog for you.
I paid my dues, and even if I did not, no one should be left to fight like a junkyard dog. I am sure if records were kept it would show a larger financial loss when claims are not paid, I deserved fair health services with a shot of getting better and back to work. If someone has a problem with this they should keep their opinions to themselves.
Unless you match me year to year for April 15th. You do not deserve an opinion, do your own job and get me back on my feet. I think I copted out another one of them attitudes. So while staying strong,
don't forget the RUN part! Bernie

Oh my goodness! I am so sorry to hear about your setback. I am glad that you pulled through. I will keep you in my prayers to keep gaining your strength back. I get so caught up in my own little world sometimes. You stay strong too!
