First time hurt on the job... help please. - codyjoyce91 - 03-13-2009 06:15 AM

I am 17 years old I work at rib crib. Its an all right job, I have only worked there for two weeks or so give or take a few days. I am a host and I seat people then on another day I rotate to the back to run the drive thru. Well I haven't been trained very well, I learned it on my own. I was rushing around a bit and turned the corner to put some dishes in the sink. The entire dish room floor was covered in water. I slipped and fell on my back. I'm a bigger girl so it was a little bit of weight behind it.

I went home and the next morning I couldn't move. Now Im wearing a back brace and a ankle boot, and they have paid for my doctor bills perscriptions and what not. But my mother tells me I might get paid for my time off. is this true???

Welcome to the forum. Sorry to hear of your injuries. How long did the doctor take you out of work? Different states have different laws of how many days your off before you are paid. Someone will be along soon to give you more information. Take it easy, and get well.

Did you file a WC injury claim at work when this happened? If not.....you won't get paid for your time off. If you haven't filed, and your employer is paying out of pocket, you need to file. Since you fell on your back AND hurt your ankle too...it could be a long drawn out recovery with lasting pain.
What state did this happen in?

Good luck, LillyWink

No they don't really need to make sure you are okay. In most WC cases the last thing they are worried about is if you are okay. The first thing they worry about is how much is this going to cost. You are talking about being out of work for a week or two right now and worried you will not be able to pay the bills. Trust everyone on here that is a big worry but you have to remember to worry about your health too. Please don't throw your health away so you can pay the bills. Many on this site struggle every day on how to pay the bills and in my case this has been going on since 2005. You may be okay with your companies WC but most are hard to deal with. Hang in there

Please file a claim with your employer. You need to make sure that you are covered. Every employer should have WC insurance. When you file a claim, you should find a doctor who is well versed in WC policies. You are entitled to a 2nd opinion as long as you have permission from WC. Keep good records. Record your feelings daily and make sure that you fully understand what the doctor is telling you. I also fell on my back and I am in physical therapy. Make sure that you get an MRI so the doctor can tell just how your fall affected you. The spine has disc that are surrounded by something called an annular, and it can tear casuing the disc to pertrude. Be active in your care and make sure your mom or dad is with you every time you see the doctor. Go on WebMD to check out any meds given to you. Good luck and I hope you get better soon.
