RE: Carpal Tunnel/Repetitive Stress Syndrome in TN-Workers Comp Issue - Cycler - 03-04-2009 07:08 AM NCV = Nerve Conduction Velocity test and is often paired with the EMG portion which measures motor input, the NCV portion measures sensory ( a simplification). CTS is diagnosed via NCV, the EMG portion is not needed for the diagnosis but is often done and may show slowing as well, just depends on the age and severity. MRI is not used to diagnose CTS as it is less sensitive than NCV and more expensive but it does investigate other abnormalities such as tendonitis. I'm curious as to what the hand surgeon determines via MRi; ie; a pronator syndrome or TFCC tear etc that may be causing your problems. RE: Carpal Tunnel/Repetitive Stress Syndrome in TN-Workers Comp Issue - sparkey - 03-04-2009 08:08 AM Tizz, How much time did you miss from work for them to fire you? Was it for your hand that you missed work? If so, you best get a lawyer because now I do not know what happens when your work place fires you while on WC. Seems like they were itching to get rid of you. I wonder how that will effect your treatment. Good luck. RE: Carpal Tunnel/Repetitive Stress Syndrome in TN-Workers Comp Issue - Tizz - 03-04-2009 12:11 PM Cycler, I believe I had the test you are reffering to the same day I had the EMG.It was the test they started with and it was like being shocked. They used this metal gadget and touched different areas of my hand, wrist and arm with it and the current got stronger each time they did it.If thats the test you are talking about, then yes I had that done. Sparkey, My claim has been denied up until Sat and that is when I got a letter stating it had been accepted on 2/26/09 and then I was Fired on 2/27/09. They had been paying for my treatment from the beginning and will continue to do so even though I am no onger employedwith that company. I just found it kind of odd that I only worked 2 hours on Friday 2/27/09 and then when HR came in they called me into there office and said "That it wasn't working out and that they needed to let me go" I was let go at 9am and by 12noon they had another person already in my position which was a New Hire! I have missed time due to my hand as well as other health issues and also because my Mother(81) has been in and out of the hospital with major Heart problems were she almost died a few times. Not too mention having to leave early for Dr appointments. I called an attorney and spoke to him and he said I needed to see what the diagnose me with and after I have had the MRI. RE: Carpal Tunnel/Repetitive Stress Syndrome in TN-Workers Comp Issue - Tizz - 03-09-2009 11:04 PM Hello, Well I had my MRI on my Right Hand today and by the time it was over ,my Hand and Arm hurt sooo bad because of the way I had to lay on that table LoL. Im anxious to see if the MRI shows anything!!! I now have a case nurse which seems very nice. Im not sure why I have a case nurse as well as the AIG adjuster. I hope to have the results some time this week. Will update you again once I get the MRI results. RE: Carpal Tunnel/Repetitive Stress Syndrome in TN-Workers Comp Issue - Tizz - 03-12-2009 07:01 PM -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Hello, Ok im back with another update!! SO I went back to the Ortho Dr at Vanderbilt to get the results of my MRI that I had done on Monday. When the Dr 1st approached me,He asked what happened to the MRI on your Elbow as well?? I told him that WComp wouldn't approve it to be done on the Elbow even though I am having problems/pain with it. SO anyway the MRI on my Right Hand show that I have "Trigger Finger" so the Dr told me I would need a Cortisone shot!!! And being the wuss that I am I said Ok LOL and after he numbed itreally well with a spray it wasn't as bad as I imagined. At any rate, the Dr told me that if the Cortisone shot doesn't help that I would need to be seen by him again in 4 weeks to get a 2nd shot then again 4 weeks later to get a final shot. If none of these shots work then I will have to have surgery to release the trigger etc. So he asked me if I had been working and I said yes up until the 27th of Feb when I got Fired. So he then tells me that he is releasing me to work with NO restrictions and basically sent me on my way. I then told him that I know 100% that this was caused from my job and he then tells me that anyone that uses there hands on a daily basis at home or at work can get Trigger Finger so I just shut up. And he was the Dr that I told you had told me it wasn't wise to File WComp(After the fact) because I could lose my job. On the up side,I am intitled to a WComp payment because I have been on restrictions so my AIG adjuster called me while I was at the Dr to tell me that she had put a check in the mail. But now that im released to work again NO more payments. My luck is really sucking..... I woke up this morning with a paralysis in my face which im pretty sure is a condition that I have had 3 times before. Its called BellsPalsey and its like you have had a stroke and now I have NO job/NO insurance so im screwed and have NO clue what to do because without meds this can get worse and NOT go away. Thanks and sorry its soooo long. RE: Carpal Tunnel/Repetitive Stress Syndrome in TN-Workers Comp Issue - Tizz - 03-12-2009 11:56 PM Im just curious.... Does anyone here think that I should get a 2nd opinion and/or contact an attorney?? Ive talked to an attorney by phone and he actually told me to call him back once I got the MRI results to see if I actually needed him. RE: Carpal Tunnel/Repetitive Stress Syndrome in TN-Workers Comp Issue - sparkey - 03-13-2009 08:39 AM Yes I would get a second, third, fourth opinion if needed. I would have them exhaust all testing to find the problem. Has the shots helped??? I have a few myself and it actually helped me to hold a fork again to eat. It did not last very long but did loosen it up a bit. It does not hurt to get more doctors involved. You just may need approval from WC to do this. Seeing you were fired, you must of lost your insurance. Now you have to soley rely on this WC for doctors to figure out what is going on with your hand. Had any doctor ever ordered you to go to PT? I am surprised as I had PT/ OT for 7 months , 4 days a week to get some relief. Unfortunatly it turned into chronic pain and I ended up in a pain clinic. Right now I am in the middle of switching pain clinics and not giving up on what is wrong with this hand. RE: Carpal Tunnel/Repetitive Stress Syndrome in TN-Workers Comp Issue - Tizz - 03-13-2009 10:00 AM Yesterday was my very 1st Cotisone shot and he has been the only Dr I have seen exept for the original Dr at the Concentra clinic that had me on NO use of my hand.He referred me to the hand Dr which is the one that keeps telling me it is NOT work related etc. Im NOT doubting the Ortho Dr about it being Trigger Finger but I have never been offered PT or anything else. I also have pain in my Elbow which they refused to do an MRI because the HR gal at my old job didn't put it as part of the problem when reported the injury. RE: Carpal Tunnel/Repetitive Stress Syndrome in TN-Workers Comp Issue - Tizz - 04-01-2009 06:46 PM Hey there, Its been a few weeks since I posted. I guess I will be going to get my 2nd Cortisone shot in a couple of weeks since the 1st one hasn't done much good. Im a little confused on how the WC payments work,I received my 2nd WC check yesterday. So when do they determine how many you will get and when they stop.DO they back pay you? Thanks |
