Asian Lady Beetles - backache - 02-04-2008 05:10 PM
Has anyone else been invaded by the Asian Lady beetles? They look like regular lady bugs, but there are millions of them. We sweep hundreds up every day here in PA where its cold. We have sprayed, fogged and sealed cracks and places they can get in and we still have them. They are driving me and my hubby nuts and I just wanted to know if anyone knows how to get rid of them without the use of more harsh chemicals. I have read articles about them on the internet and none of those tell how to get rid of them. I can't sweep them in the shop-vac because they make it hard for me to breath and my back bothers me too much to sweep for very long anyway, so my husband gets stuck doing it. Any help will be appreciated.

The smell like half rotten potatoes, I actually think I read they pinch or bite. I know they have bitten me. I just don't know what I'm going to do if I can't get rid of them. They have been so bad at times in the summer that they cover your windshield whith a yellow film when they hit it. The poor bikers have a he** of a time.

Are we talking about " Stink bugs?" they are brown and when you smash them they smell like a strong odor of grass or something i cannot describe..LOL. I live in a log home and i get them in the windows etc. They seem to have pinchers on the front of them also and fly. We hate these bugs. My girls and I call them manbugs because they look like lady bugs but aren't. They do stink and bite and I can't get rid of all of them! Make sure that if you vacuum them up you dispose of the bag immediately. They will come back out of the bag and get out of your trash. I wonder if hedge balls would work on these bugs?

Thank god for high altitude, i have never even heard of them. Almost no bugs is one of the bennies of living somewhere like this.

Ksgirl What the he** is a hedge ball? I will try anything. My hubby caulked around every window and as many cracks as he could find. We have pine tongue and groove wood on the ceilings. I still found a bunch of the Lady beetles today. Sparkey the stink bugs are alot bigger. I always think they smell like old baby powder mixed with something else. Probably the other thing in the diaper with the powder. Sithie you don't know how lucky you are. I have found different articles on the Asian beetles. They say years ago the Dept of agriculture was leaving them go to kill aphids. They think the infestation came from an Asian ship down in LA. I think they just screwed up again and are trying to pass the buck.

Hedge balls come from hedge trees (Osage Orange trees) and they are really good for keeping spiders away. They aren't actual orange trees, their wood is very orange. Do you have hedge trees in PA?

Not that I know of and I know almost every tree that grows in this area. Can I buy these things?
I went to a good site about the hedge balls and I'm ROFLMAO wait until Monster and Jayne hear this one. They said hedge balls are called many differnt names one of them being monkey balls............
