IME Today - Cervical_Fusion - 08-02-2011 10:51 PM

IME today was with a paid ho for sure, I got there about 10 minutes before the scheduled appt. This Dr's office was in a large glass tower in town, went up to the 5th floor, walked in and there was no one in the waiting room, no one at the reception desk. Looked all around the room and there was nothing in the waiting room to indicate it was any type of medical office, only thing on the walls was one piece of art work, nothing else in room except maybe 8 chairs or so. I walked up to the glass reception window no one was there and i peeered through, there was nothing around the reception area to indicate a medical office., no medical files or anthing, i could see a few rooms with doors open and in there seemed to have nice looking office furniture. still nothing to indicate it being a dr's office. I set about 10 minutes before anyone appeared behind the glass, a lady and she asked me my name. I saw here pull from a stack of what i expected to be my file, it was what was provided to this dr i am sure, had a large snap paper clip to it, there were 2 others like this laying there. she gave me 2 papers to fill out. While filling them out i saw another lady and a man walked by the glass area, none of the 3 employees i seen there had on anything or clothing to indicate a dr office. i was finally taken back to a room and observed as i walked again nothing on walls, no diplomas or anthing again to say i am a dr office. got to this room and in it was a chair, a dr exam table, a skeleton in the corner, a table with a stethascope and a thing to look at a persons ears. nothing on the walls on the back of the door was a muscular skeleton diagrahm. Man comes in and examies me and did his measurements, and wrote them down on a form, the only paper he brought in with him not even the file lady had picked up earlier. wanted to know about what caused my accident, why i was not working today, wanted to know dr's i have seen and in what order. If i was currently takeing the meds i listed on the form i filled out, wanted know why i had to have a second susrgery on my cervical, asked if i have had a MRI since my surgrey and I told him no that i could not have one, since I have a SCS in my lumbar, then he wanted to know it the reason i was not working was because of my cervical or my lumbar, i told him because of both parts of my body, he wanted to know if i have a cat scan, emg, or any nerve conduction exams since last surgrey, I told him no, oh he ask about epidurals how many i have had, i told him 2 and that i have had one cortizone shot in my left shoulder. While examing me he found I had pain in my right shoulder and wanted to know why because it was not part of my claim, well i answered him with it is connected to my neck, he then told me to get dressed and he would be back, he left the room i dressed and sat and waited for him about 5 minutes later, he came opend the door and said we are done i needed to look something up in your file, i looked stunned at him i am sure, he thanked me and said have a nice day and walked away. by the time i got up and walked out the door way no one was to be seen. i walked down the hall way and out to tne waiting area. there was a man sitting in one of the chairs, must have been his next 3000.00 he was going to make today. So i left, I guess the IC will get what they paid for, I have been to a lot of IME over the past 10 yrs, but none this obvious as being a paid ho. I hope my attorney gets a copy real soon as i am sure my finances will be changed after this dr writes up his report they pd for. Anyone ever experience an IME like this one??

RE: IME Today - jayne - 08-02-2011 11:26 PM

yes I had one simular....but it was in a real Drs office with real nurses in fact the nurses told my husband to get me to an ER fast....he wrote me us as ready to go back to work in fact he found nothing wrong with me at all! Bill took me right to the ER where the admited me with severe inner ear infections of both ears....now while I will admit and my lawyer did also it had nothing to do with my claim he didnt do a very detailed exam like he claimed and wrote up and missed something so bad it put me in the hospital for a week.....My lawyer had fun with that one...I believe it was BBBB that said to always try and get an Appt with your Dr for the day of or day after an IME so your lawyer has a rebuttle if needed....I wouldnt worry much C_F you did let it slip you were disabled by SSDI didnt you? believe me you were watched all the way in and all the way out

My husband had a appt a couple weeks ago with a dr his lawyer sent him to. I have to say we were both impressed by his professionalism and organization. He walked in with 3 huge folders neatly organized with little tabs on the side. He spent the first hr or so just asking questions. If my husband was unsure of exacts he would choose a folder, flip to correct tab and look up correct info in a mannor of seconds.

The second hr and a half was him doing a physical exam. He took measurements and had him do things as well as he could. Like walk on toes and heals, try and squat and get up. I have to say I was impressed with the extent of the exam. He also measured his legs.I didn't even notice the size difference until he said the measurements to the nurse to write down. Now I can't help but notice it when he walks past me.

He also asked a few questions about... well let's just say I was looking at the ceiling and acting as if I didn't hear him. I'm sure my red face showed otherwise.

I do hope you asked for a copy of that exam for SSDI records.....and well dont worry about the red face...it doesnt mean squat ask Bronco he has a brand new son...18 years after is last son and several years after his accident...lol well it gets boring staying at home all the time you gotta do something....you just find different ways to do it...

RE: IME Today - Bummer Knees - 08-03-2011 02:22 PM

CF the last IME appointment the insurance company sent me to was very different..........this is the same doctor who injured the neck, the IME appointment was 2 weeks after I was injured. I told the doctor about the neck injury he caused at the start of the IME appointment, maybe that is way the appointment did not go well.

There was nothing in the medical records about the neck injury or the testing the IME doctor did to determine the extent of the neck injury/nerve damage.
I filed the complaint based on the appointment when I was injured and the IME appointment.

This doctor gave me a 0% rating on the knee replacement and 10% on the right knee with 10% on the carpal tunnel.

The IME doctor my attorney sent me to gave me a 75% on the knee replacement, 10%on the lumbar spine and with a 92% whole body.

Uhm....lol.. Yes it does get boring and my wife sat with me durring the ime for my hip and pelvis. Like your hubby's, my ime took about 2 hrs and I was impressed for how thorough he was.. This ime dr pointed out the bone fragments into the muscles around the hip and not any of my other drs noted that.

And as far as finding different ways, yes and were only human. I like to call it calm ocean therapy.....lol.... The kicker is with my pelvis injury and being cut in the front hip to hip, and all the nerve damage the drs really did figure kids were out of the question...We believed it, not using protection for almost 3 years and then the surprise..........Baby Dominick... My lawyer has a field day with me every time he sees me, he says it just shows not all drs know for sure....

RE: IME Today - ammowoman - 08-04-2011 06:22 AM

Lol...

Well the line of questioning caught me completely off guard. It is effected given the injury. Still uncomfortabe with the questions! Good thing he was asking him and
not me. Lol

Bronco... My husbands height was taken and it was 3in less than his preinjury height. Is this normal?!?!?

RE: IME Today - jayne - 08-04-2011 09:30 AM

yes it is

RE: IME Today - chrischris - 08-04-2011 04:52 PM

Cervical, I don't remember. Are you in California?

RE: IME Today - bronco54501 - 08-04-2011 06:13 PM

I am not sure how to take that question, so I hope I;m on the right track...... Yes, as with me my pelvis has been altered to which it is tillted forward which makes me stoop forward. Can I straighten out...? Yes but hurts like a bugger, i believe if the therapist would have noticed right a way it could have been corrected... The 3 inches threw me off gaurd...........llol....
