Getting a new computer - Bummer Knees - 11-20-2010 11:44 AM
I will be getting a new computer later today, hubby and will head to Wichita to find one.
The HP desktop I have is 9 yrs old, the DVD & CD drive have not worked for sometime, the sound does not work, and the floppy drive quit working earlier this week. When I open certian web sites internet explorer closes the site.
I want another HP desktop, just not certian what features I need to look for, how much memory..........

have you considered a laptop with a wireless router?
you can use the internet from any room in the house and is easily portable. especially good if/when you travel as most hotels, airports, etc, have wireless connections available.
they are now easily as powerful as any desktop especially for internet and email
what about buying online?
here's a couple (one for $500 and an inexpensive kick butt machine $679):

I like my laptop for now a desktop hurts my back to sit in a chair like that,
They have really improved now, on desktop they don't even have a floppy now, and the hard drives are bigger on laptops now.
I got my first computer in 1990 no internet then but I learned every thing my self and back then my hard drive was just 60 mhz big..........lol
So I think I'm pretty good on them my self it was all I had so I learned all I could......
HP is good just don't get a Celeron processor they suck......
Help you get a nice one to enjoy.....I been through all the windows
I started out with 3.1
The ones I liked the best was wins98 and winXP

I ended up with buying a HP desktop, purchasing a tower & a HP deskjet printer.
I have a desk downstairs hubby made with a special office chair that provides support for the neck & back. If I need a laptop I can use the agencys I keep at home.
My cousin works on computers and suggested I keep a book with the web addresses I visit and a list my ID's & passwords, course this is kept locked up.
Got eveything updated on the flash drive and going to shut down this computer shortly.

You can't go wrong with a HP. I'm on my second one. The other was simply outdated. As for laptops, everyone in the family has one except me. I've just never felt comfortable with with them. I'm an old dog, I guess.

I am now on the new computer, had a time getting it hooked up with all the new technology, just not use to it! Good thing I have a couple of teens in the house, they were able to do the crawling under the desk and had things hooked up.
The old computer was 9 yr old, the A drive quit working last week, only the word processing & internet were still working on the computer.
Lots of good sales out there right now on computers!
