Not sure if I asked already but..... I hurt my right dominant hand and have a weight restriction of 10 pounds. So mostly what I pick up is my son who is roughly about 40lbs. Unfortunately I can not distribute his weight between my left arm and my right arm just pretty much have to pick him up with my left arm.
Well I did this over a week ago (even though my left arm has been hurting for along time now)So over a week ago I picked him up (properly bending my knees yada yada) and when I picked him up I heard a loud pop and felt like my shoulder was on fire. I have tried everything under the sun to try and get rid of this pain. Nothing has helped. It has gotten so bad that it is starting to effect my neck. Even at night time my BF messages it with icy hot and then about 30 minutes later I put a heating pad on it all night. It helps a little but the pain is still there and it is unbearable.
Asked my attorney what to do he said make an appointment with my orthopedic for my current work comp problem ( my rt wrist) and then when I get there to tell the doctor about my left arm and see if he will treat it.
Wont all this need to be authorized?
I went to the emergency room because the pain was a 10+ and the triage nurse asked and I said 10 and she said there is no way what is your pain. I kept telling her a 10. So a med student came and saw me and did basic stuff, then the doctors assistant came and seen me and they said well since it isn't an emergency in order for the doctor to see you, we need 150.00 up front. ever heard of that when you go to the ER? Also how difficult is it to get treated for over compensation. I had emailed this all to my attorney (I was on vacation when I picked my son up) and was wondering if I should show my doctor the letters between myself and my attorney?
Has this left arm been hurting along the same time frame as the hand? They might not see it as related to first injury. But if they told you to go the doctor and put it under. Well. I hurt my back a while ago and had surgery which failed...other complications which I won't go into. But I have been having problems with my left leg ever since and fell in April whilst on a walk. My left let buckled under me and I went down a hill. I called my surgeons secretary, and told her that I thought I broke my hand and I was going to ER...and was putting it under the w/c claim...because it was directly related to my leg giving way. Then I phoned my attorney and talked with him. He said do it. I ended up with a broken left hand and a broken nose with the left side of my face torn up. They accepted it as being part of the claim. I just told the ER people it was related and that is what they billed it under. Especially since it is the same hospital as I had the surgery from.
Talk to your attorney again. Then go back and just file it under the work comp claim...if your attorney says to.
The only reason my left arm/shoulder is hurting is because for the past two years I have had restrictions on the right one and have been unable to lift much. I even have it in a pre trial papers.
For the first year I had no use of my right arm and now with the 10 pound restriction I have to use my left arm for all lifting over ten pounds.
My attorney said that it is from over compensating and to see my orthopedic for my problem. I have an appointment but not till late November. I told ther ER about it being work comp. No one would listen to me
I have heard of this, my son has a ulcer and went to the ER in the town he lives in vomiting blood and had severe abdominal pain. They demanded 100$ cash down before they would see him, and he has blue cross/blue shield. I was livid because he is a college student and doesn't walk around with 100 $ on him. I called there and told them I was a RN and NP and if he wasn't treated in the next hour (He also has had a bone marrow transplant in the past so has medical problems) I'd be calling their patient representative, the local newspaper, and my attorney the next morning since it was 10:00pm. You'd be surprised how fast he was treated with no money down but I wonder how many people they do this to on a regular basis and where is that money going they do collect? Hospitals can not refuse treatment to anyone because of their inability to pay== IT IS THE LAW
That's what I thought but it has been a long time since I have worked in the emergency room I thought it might be a new law or something. I will talk to my attorney and tell him what happened. My shoulder is in such pain that it is making me sick.
Hi all....Cookie...Although I have settled I have a similar problem to yours. My cervical spine and left shoulder were injured. Shoulder surgery made me worse. I can barely pick a tea cup up in my left hand. Lately (this is after 3 years) I have the same pain in my right arm, hand shoulder. I know it's from overuse. Knowing what helped and didn't help for my left side I have started to be really careful. The thing that helped the most was that I stopped carrying everything with my right arm. I have lightened all loads. When I go food shopping for example I only carry one light bag at a time. Resting was the only thing that helped. Good luck.
I hurt my left shoulder @ work & had 2 rotator repairs done; while recooperating I tore my right shoulder; from over useage. I had to see my ortho for him to say that it was from over usage. I then had to go to court for the IC to accept it. I won & had the repair done on it.(But not much improvement --- & now refusing anymore surgery; afraid it could be over-usage on one & then the other after each surgery). See your ortho dr & then your atty will file the necessary paperwork. Good luck.
I am still waiting to hear from my attorney. In the mean time The pain in my shoulder is "spreading" and I think I may have done something nerve wise cause it is going to my right shoulder but my arms both arms feel "weird" Heavy and tingly.
Plus the pain is so bad I have been getting sick.
It stinks cause I can not do anything either. Especially cause the ER wants money.
I have asked my orthopedic doctor to look at my left side he hasn't and I don't think he will. However I am going to show him the emails my attorney sent me. I see him in 2 weeks because that's all he has open.

Sorry Cookie....all of our ER's stink in this regard also. As soon as they hear WC they do nothing. The day after I was injuried (cervical, lt shoulder, lumbar, rt knee and rt. ankle) and this was made clear to the ER Dr. he did no tests, told me to follow up with my PCP, wrote it down as a lumbar strain and yet put my arm in a sling and wrapped my right knee.
It's starting to sound like a cervical injury to me when the pain spreads down both arms.
A friend of mine, a RN in ER shared with me; In the emergency rooms staff are trained to stop what they are doing when they hear 2 words: Work Comp.
