No matter how you dice it up, the whole deal is very simple. No insurance company wants to insure a 55 year old with existing medical problems let alone a 65 year old while no 25 year old with no medical problems wants to purchase health insurance. or needs to.
Any type of wider coverage has to force the coverage of healthy young people so their premiums will offset the losses of the older sick. The public option issue is really irrelevant to the core problem.
