Today was the local United Way Kick-off with the start of the fundraising drive.
Agencies were present with table’s setup and members of the community were present for the Kick-off.
Lunch is served over the lunch hour, information is present about the drive, and one agency is chosen to speak about their program.
I arrived at the kick-off 2 hours early and learned their was a mix up with the business that was to provide lunch and it looked like no lunch would be served.
Just as I was leaving the caption for our local Salvation Army pulled into the parking lot driving the newly purchased canteen.
Caption Rick had been told about the crisis and along with volunteers was there to prepare and serve lunch.
A couple of teenagers attending the the kick-off with me volunteered to help with lunch. (The teens had been in the agency's summer program that I chair)
Lunch was about 10 minutes late but all went well.
And the scheduled speaker was Captain Rick, his speech was about the newly purchased canteen and the way it benefits the community.
I thought it was very appropriate.
