I sent a certified letter to my attorney Thursday saying " I would like to request a copy of my entire file" it shows that it was delivered yesterday. I get a package today with my file enclosed and a letter that says "We are closing your file in our office at this time. Should you wish to pursue this claim further, I would encourage you to contact another attorney as soon as possible.
Why would they do this just because I asked for a copy of my file?
It's hard to say why they did this because there could be so many reasons. They could have decide they will not get enough money out of it for the time it may take, they think you don't have a very good case, they took on more then they could handle or they have better paying case they want to work on. These are just a few of them but I don't think they did it just because you asked for your file. With send you everything they could have decided it was a good time to drop you, or you have been bugging them way too much. Please don't take that wrong but some just don't like it when they think you are bugging them too much. But them dropping you could be a good thing for you
generally that's the signal that you are shopping for a new atty.
1171 that was what I was thinking and hoping it was.

Manley I didn't take any offense to the bugging them. Actually that crossed my mind at first to. Then I sit down and counted the amount of times that I called them and not counting the two times he asked me to call him with info and it was actually nothing. I did call him twice with a question the other 2 or 3 times was to give him information that he said he would have to send out to get so I actually saved him some time and trouble there. I didn't even talk to him those last 2 or 3 I just left him a voicemail with the info. Maybe he did think my case was not going to make him anything I don't know or maybe they do have other high paying cases that they would rather deal with. Or and this is what 1171 said and I have thought more than anything that it was and that is that they knew I was shopping for a new attorney....Or that I was asking for my file so I could fire them. That is what I really think it is but I could be totally wrong.
You were right about one thing though them dropping me could turn out to be a very good thing for me because I think I have found a very good attorney from what I have learned about him so far.
I think I would want an explanation of why they dropped you so you would know before you get your next lawyer. I would just want piece of mind to what went wrong with this lawyer taking your case before you get involved with another.
Tired ..consider yourself lucky if they knew you were attorney shopping. They released you and never asked for their cut if/when you win anything. IF they let go of you because there was a problem you have a right to know.
Sparkey is right it would be nice to know why. It might be they just wanted out or they saw a problem but it would be nice to know before you speak with another lawyer
If thet did not charge a fee and you want released and you want another Attorney, It all adds up to a plus.
If they released you because they feel you have no case, then you could have trouble securing another Attorney.
They would have never released you if they thought a nice payday was ahead.
The more I think about it, I would want to know why they released me. Something stinks here.
This could have consequences when securing another Attorney unless you have a solid case.
Good Luck.
Now I am torn. I would like to know why they did this but then at the same time part of me is telling me to count my blessings and move on. Ugh I don't know what to do.
