Is it hitting your towns yet / still. We just had another dealership close thier doors, Chrysler and Ford did here too. Factories shutting down 3rd shifts due to no orders. Construction is just dragging on many still without work since last fall. But the crazy thing is Mcdonalds hires kids 14 years old and starts them out at $7.00. But I have noticed there is still a lot of tourist up here ( In Gods Country ). People are just budgeting thier funds differently, the campgrounds are booked full all summer long. And when you see them they are family's doing the family things, there is your younger groups but majority are 40-50 year olds.
I was just wondering how your towns are doing? ...Bronco..
Fortunatley we are not hurting like other towns are. Don't get me wrong, people are holding on to thier money longer. We have four military bases and two military/civilan hospitals. If it was not for the bases, San Antonio would be hurting will bad.
here the campgrounds are also staying full.....not many out of staters just locals doing a cheap vacation most within a 100 miles according to camphosts.....nicer restaurants closing their doors but mcDonalds and sonic drive-ins doing great...we have chicken plants and they are going strong...wal mart and choctaw casino staying full......neighbors are still selling their hi dollar $750.00 and up kittens and have waiting lists.....property values are still going down.....except for farm land and it is staying steady this is due to large groups of Amish and mennonites buying up huge tracks of land....single family farms are hard to find......Have noticed a bunch of small greenhouses going up in our area tho....
Just dont see the same problems in the country as the city people see....Talked to my son in Calif and he said it is hard there.....laying off fire and police men...And teachers....no tax money to pay them he is glad he has a federal job and job security but has lost over 20 thousand in his 401k before he withdrew and put it in something else.....Crime is bad there with a lot of gang activity if they dont get some help the Grands will come back here as it wont be safe for them there.....
we have the highest unemployment in the state. Cat layed off over 2500 and some of the little plants have closed. Houses every where are up for sale, 10 on our block and some of them are forclosed. Hospital is laying off and cutting back on hours on all staff. There is no jobs in the paper. We are looking to move about 60 miles away where there is a few jobs.
In Kansas the aircraft industry has been hit hard with many laid off, or the reduction of work hours. All of the aircraft plant and suppliers have been impacted in some way.
My niece & husband worked for Cessna Aircraft, he recently lost his job there. They will be moving to Texas and he has a job with Cessna's sister company Bell Helicopter.
I did see on the news the military recently placed an order with Boeing and Beech has an order to build some planes.
Our hospital has cut back hours. The inpatient floors are compared to a ghost town, with many out of work surgeries are being delayed.
My 18 yr old has been job hunting this summer with no success, jobs are hard to find.
NJ has not changed much. The threat is there alover in terms of loss jobs etc. NJ went through this about 10 years ago with all the jobs going over seas. We use to have most of the gasoline manufactures in this state...still have a few, but most have went overseas. Also their was another loss of jobs when the twin towers were dropped. Now our governor wants to give our Turn PIke (road where they charge to drive on) over to the japanese to run... so that will be another loss of jobs. Other than that... not too bad here. Property taxes have taken another hike. Food is almost doubling in cost, especially meat and fresh vegetables for civilian people. Thanks Red
I Live 30 Miles South of Pittsburgh, and 30 Miles North of Morgantown W.Va, and it's not Hitting Here Real bad Yet, but there are Quite a Few Foreclosed Homes, and Some Unemployment. Pittsburgh and Our Areas went through a Major Recession in the Early 80's when the Steel Mills shut Down, and Pittsburgh had to rebuild as a Major Leader in Electronics and Computer Technology, and also Medical Procedures and Training. That's Why the G-20 Summit will be Held Here this Year, to Show how Cities can Re-Invent themselves when Faced with a Major Recession. But it is Slowly getting to Us, small Business Here in the Country Closing, but Morgantown is a College Town, so they seem to be Holding Their Own also. After Fighting through the Recession We had in the 80's, Folks who Remember that know how to make a Buck Stretch, I think that's Why it's taking a bit Longer to Hit Us Here!!
My sister is a single mother she had 5 kids and had worked up to a few years ago before here blood disease kicked her butt. Husband left her and left the state shortly after her being ill, now divorced and has 2 kids still at home. He has not been working so Judge says pay $80.. a month untill he finds a job. I dont know about you's but that dont buy enough to give them kids what they need.. She is totally disabled and does collect a check but just couldnt survive and she called the bank and said here you go come get it. My mother lives on a lake and has a 5 bedroom home with 2 seperate living quarters and sister is now there.
My point of this is I would be scared to start rasing more kids at this time. And for you single mothers my heart goes out for you, Unless you go through college and make a career or you were left a bunch of money it will be rough to live alone ( money wise ).
Bronco, You Make a Very Valid Point!! My Daughter is 23, and has a Bachelors Degree in Biology, with an Associates in Psychology, and Graduated from an All Girl Private 1000 Student College with a Grade Point Average of 3.89! Her Biggest Problem Right now is that there are so Many People in Her Field, and even People Over Qualified Out of Work and Looking for Jobs in Her Fields, that even Her Degree with that High of a GPA, and from a College that is Very Well known and Respected, She can't Find Work, because the Job Pool Applicants are Over Flowing!! So I can Imagine how Hard it is for Someone without a Degree, and being a Single Parent! I saw a Segment on CNN that Discussed that there is a Very High Rise of Children Moving back in with Their Parents, the Part that Blew Me away was that the Median Age of these Kids were the 30-40 Range!! They grew-Up in an Era of trying to Beat the Jones, and have More than the Neighbor, and Using Credit they had no Way of Repaying!! as Hillary Clinton put it, A Very High Number of People are Living One Missed Paycheck from Bankruptcy!! I Pray this Turns soon, but I Fear We have More Hard Times ahead before it gets Better!!
