Does anyone on the forum use massages as a way to help with the pain?
My friend the injured nurse has a severe spine injury. She finds riding in a car for any length of time very painful, and after a recent trip her mother suggested having a massage.
She started masssages and claims it makes a big difference in helping with the pain.
Yesterday on my way home the headache started, then the flashing lights. My neck & shoulder were very tight. I took Tylenol, used the tens, and pain patches with no help.
I finally got some relief using the home medics massage chair.
Just wondering if anyone has had any relief with massages?
Bummer my wife does and said it helps and she works for a chiropractor. But they can be kinda rough so tell them so they dont hurt you.
I have used and had plenty of massage therapy. It is nice and can be a bit rough but I find it is only a very short term temporary fix. It can be very relaxing and it is my understanding that the relaxation you get from them are good for your emotional well being. Good Luck and take care.

BK....Massages are great for pain. Although it may also be kinda painful when you're getting one too.
The trick is to try several massage therapists UNTIL you find the one with magic hands that works best for you. Believe me, you'll know it when you find him/her.
Heck yea, I think they help alot event though its not a cure it relaxes you. Like Hurt & Lilly said they can be a bit rough so tell them when it hurts. After my second surgery (Heparin problem) I was so tense couldnt sleep couldnt breath and kept having anxiety attacks. Well 1 of my night nurses asked if it would be allright if she could rub my back. Well at that point I would do anything to help time pass well she had me sleeping like a baby. I just could not believe having a massage could help with many things like that.
To find out later she had gone to school for massage therapy. God bless her heart she was a life saver. So I say go for it........................Bronco
Thank you everyone.
My neck muscles have been very tense, if I take anything more then tylenol it knocks me out. I do believe the muscle relaxer I take is not working, so I would like to investigate something other then medications.
If my doctor writes a script would insurance or medicare pay for massage?
I agree with Lilly the right massage therapist can do wonders. And the wrong ones are just a waste of money and time. I would search Google for the ones in your area. And then google lets people submit reviews. Go to the one with the best reviews first and see what happens. Good Luck I hope you feel better.
Bummer,
Massage therapy can do wonders both physically and mentally; but it is short term relief. Medications are also short term relief. I can't add much to what the others have already said.
As far as WC paying......well.........they will sometimes............but most massage therapists are self employed, non-medically certificated, and can't afford to wait out the delays in payment.
That is why I self-pay and leave WC out of it.
A warm bath or spa time work well to relax the muscles.
The neck injury is the result of an auto accident and not a wc accident.
After the accident I had 2 weeks of physical therapy. I was measured (ROM) the first time the physical therapist saw me.
The 2nd time she saw me I did exercises, and had some massage. At the end of the 2 weeks I was measured and had lost ROM so physical therapy was discontinued.
But last night I got some relief using the massage chair and that is why I am questioning if a massage would help.
Another question, Will the person doing the massage need to see medical records, MRI reports, or any other medical documents?
I would say it would be in your best intrest to tell them as well as show them If your able to.
