hello,i was wondering if someone can help? to start,i had fusion surgury in 2004 from a ruptured and herniated l5/s1 .it went ok but i had sciatica pain on left side, still do till this day.now in january this year i was lifting a heavy weight, actually was pushing up on equipment to load on trailer its weight was 1300 lbs....alot.well i felt my back give to the right,it felt like i was sinking, the upper half of my body....hurt like hell, went to my knees then laid on the ground.well the problem is i have had mris, xrays, etc.i have an xray and mri from two years a go and the doctors dont see a change.but i have been off work 6 months with alot of pain.wc is paying me but the doctors dont see anything wrong.i know there is something wrong cant hardly walk, bent, stoop, reach etc.back feels like its going to explode it hurts down my leg(right)and my feet tingle all the time.i think the doctors think i am faking the pain etc.but believe me im not.heres the kicker,i am taking oxyir for the sciatica pain from a pain mgt.since im taking this and seeing the pain center the wc doctors will not give me meds.has anyone ever heard a case like this?the doctors cant find a problem, they think all i want is pain meds i hate the damn things!wish i didnt need them.if it wasnt for the pain meds im getting from pain mgt.i would be screwed.i have a lawyer but they dont know what to do either.the wc dr told me to go back to work with 10 lbs restriction and no pushing lifting etc.im a hvacr tech.the place i work let me go.what can i do now,any advice on how to prove my pain?to wc?my lawyers says they will give a low rating if any.they wont let me (wc)get a second opinon.all the wc dr is doing is tenns unit which makes it hurt even more and a steroid injection which gives me a bad headache.i have been reading the forums but have not found anything like my problem can anyone help?thanks ps the surgury in 2004 not work related.
In my case, my L5-S1 disc shattered. They were able to tell that the disc was damaged and that something was pressing on the S1 nerve. At the bottom of this post will tell the procedures that I have had. The experimental surgery was because there is no test that will show if there is more disc fragements in my back. The only way for them to know for sure was to open me up again.

What I don't understand is why you can not get a second oppinion.

I am well aware of the type of work you do/did. With a bad back, it is going to be very difficult for you to continue. I did it for 15 years until my injury.

Take Care
thanks for the reply.ive been a tech for 25 years.i have no other training.they denied me a second opinion because they say they dont see a change in my mri from a year or so back.but i know somethings wrong.but that dont help my case.i asked the wc dr to operate and he come back with...i dont know where to cut..i wish they would do an exploritory surgury or something this pain sucks.....
Hi,
There are many "back /neck injury" people on this forum.....give them time to post, they will.

IMO you need more extensive or intricate testing to see what the problem is. If you know something is wrong...there probably is a re-injury or new injury.
Why not seek you own second opinion with a really good doc?
Good Luck to you.

I am a Lower Back Patient, Disabled from My Injuries, (Look at My Signature Below), and I have been Seeing People getting Standing MRI's. The Problem May be that when You Lay, You relieve what is Causing Your Pain, and it isn't Showing on Your MRI. You May want to also Have Your Attorney Petition for a Standing MRI, with and without Contrast. That May Better show the Problem, and I Wish You the Very Best, and Please keep Us Informed!!Wink
unfortunately there is no clinical data to support the idea that MRI shows what is hurting. There is no correlation between imaging abnormalities and symptoms. While it would be nice it doesn't work.
I also had flexion and extension (I believe they were the positions) x-rays done and it showed bone hitting bone in certain positions. Well some of these positions I had to be in while working.
I Understand Imaging doesn't show Pain Cycler, but Standing rather than Laying for an MRI May show Compression of Nerves, or Disc Bulging Issues that can't be seen with the Laying Down Version. That could at Least Possibly give them an Area to Search for. It was just a Thought seeing as Regular Imaging is Showing No Reason for Pain.Wink
I think thats a great idea Still, and 1 I will keep in mind. For that reason I can only get relief from laying down and have to turn on right side for the most relief. I belive It's agreat thing to bring up at drs.

oncalldaddy.

I also suffer lower back problems due to a auto accident, And belive Still has great advice. Also maybe the advice on getting another oppinion on your own and pay for it yourself may be very helpfull. I hope the best for you and hope they get it figured out...............Take care.....Bronco
if I was you I would go for secon oppinion most wc doctors will side with wc.
