ok just got out of the hospital today..fused from s1-l4..was wondering if anyone has any suggestions for the pain thats not oxycontin or ice..oxys work but make me very sleepy
time is all I can suggest and walk as much as you can I know it hurts but up and walking will help
We all react to pain differently. What works for one may not work for others. Jayne is correct. You will need to walk alot. Some people do not relize that walking uses the lower back muscels. It will take time for the muscels to form around the vertebrea again. As my dr. told me. " I had to pull your back muscels off the bones to get to the vertebrea ". of course I asked " why did you not tell me that before the surgey??" He responded," would you have had the surgery if I did ???". I then called him some choice words and he got me some morphine for the pain.
Bottom line is time and walking. You may also want to find some thing to do that you have to mentally focus on. Maybe some puzzels or games that will keep your mind active. That will help keeping it off the pain.
Take Care
I agree . Walking is the best medicine . It hurts. But no pain no gain . LOL. Hope you feel much better soon. Take care & be safe

I am Glad You are O.K. from the Surgery, and I Hope it will be a Success!! The above Info. is Right on, when I had My Lower Back Surgery, My Surgeon explained that He had to cut through 4 Layers of Muscle to get to My Spine, and it just Takes Time, and Exercise!! I did a lot of Crossword Puzzles, Find-a-Words, and when it was Physically Possible, I was on the Walking Trail that goes along the River! Best of Luck on a Speedy Recovery!!
