i picked this up off a lawyers website ... and would someone tell me how this is possible?

$190,000 lump sum settlement for a union mechanic after a herniated disc and no surgery. <---- NO SURGERY?!
HERES ANOTHER

$245,000 lump sum settlement for a laborer with a back injury and no surgery. Petitioner's first attorney recommended a $15,000 settlement.
very easy....as I have one like it....the IC paid me for my surgery in other words they settled my medical with me ....all money that had to be put away for future medical treatment as my doc refused to do surgery because of scar tissue this released the IC from future liabilty but and this is a big but if I spend that money and need surgery down the road I am out of luck......I would much rather have my back better, but this is not possiable so instead I paid off the farm so my family is gonna be ok even if I am not.....
well im kinda up in the air on surgery , they are leaving it up to me on my L5/S1 nerve pinch, i had one doctor say that i needed a fusion, another one said i need a disectomy , i dont know what the hell todo the second opinion doc said he needs more tests which includes Phycological testing ,to see if im a good candidate.
what would you do?
that is a personal choice I would have had the surgery if there was a chance it could have fixed me........the money doesnt do a darn thing to help me sleep or walk or even make love to my husband without pain.......I could have made more money than that with the 15 years left for me to work
I don't think they could ever pay enough money to make up what you lose out on for income. Let alone what you miss out of in your personnal life. Sure money can buy things that can help make you more comfortable but until you live in pain every day its so hard for others to understand it. Not saying that paying off things like your home don't help to make life alittle better but if most could return to work pain free they could make the money they needed to pay the bills in the first place
im curious how he got an impairment rating w/o surgery .. i mean surgery could of fixed that, and they still pay out? regardless of the situation , it has come to me that if you have surgery and you return to work.... and everything is fine you pretty much get ZERO. from what i read. i could be wrong
notice that attys advertise the high settlements-- just like the weight loss diets.
extenuating circumstances where collateral conditions like heart, kidney, diabetes, obesity etc. complicate treatment almost always cost more.
it also very much depends on the state benefits. each state has it's own system.
a state with lifetime medical will payout more then one that doesn't. like trying to compare Alaskan wages with alabama's.
