Hi all, Did you know that in the State of Washington, you can't even volunteer if you are receiving 'time-loss' or 'disability payments'?

I think this is unfair. They will prosecute you for Disability Fraud if you volunteer.

What do you think, should injured worker's be allowed to volunteer?
not if they are exceeding their restrictions.
if they are within their medical restrictions and the employer has no such work then I would allow it with doctor approval.
I had many volunteers here in the state of Okla......with their bosses approvel I might add it kept them out in public and mobile.....
rafe

I sent you a pm on this but will post my response here.

I am from the state of Kansas and have volunteered the past 20+ years for United Way.

I spoke to my attorney about my volunteering when I was first injured and several
times since.

His response was. "As long as I stay within my restrictions it is okay to volunteer"

Much of the work I do is done out of my home and by phone.

In fact many that volunteer learn valuable work related skills that helps them when seeking a job.
