My company bought a new tool which can generate bright light. There is no safety precaution which said I have to wear wilder shield to look into it. Although there is welder's goggle right by the machine I work with that machine for one month and stare at bright light very often. Later I found my eye sight getting blurry and went to ophthalmologist and doctor said I got acute cataract need surgery to correct the problem. I just got a new pair of glasses. Now I can not see very well especially left eye. Is my case qualified for worker's comp?
what state are you in? It should be. What did your Dr. say? I'm in La. Been injuried snce '07. Haven't had a weekly benefit check since 10-08. Get an lawyer quick and an Dr. you can trust.
You'll need medical evidence that the condition is caused by your job duties. In order to find out if it's covered file a claim. you can appeal a denial to your comp court.
before you get a lawyer(dont faint 1171) talk to your Dr if he says its from this light you go to your HR person and file for WC and see what they say...you may be a lucky one that has no problems....cat surgery is outpatient and next day good to go..No need to pay a lawyer 33% of your check until you need to.... now if they refuse then you get a lawyer involved.....Dont mess around with your eyes they are very important and cant be replaced as easy as a pair of glasses...welcome to our site it is a awesome place.
You will have to know the type of light you were exposed to since bright light itself is not a recognized, to my knowledge, risk factor, while UV radiation is. Certain bulbs have a significant UV A or B component. As you see, it is not simple matter of association, past medical history, age, previous work history etc are important questions.
Just what is this tool that it generates a bright Light?

What does this tool do?

Why does it omit a bright light?

It is an E Beam evaporator. When I evaporate NiCr, I need to make a slug and I need to put in a lot of small pallets in a crucible and use e beam to melt the pallets, pellets are small and in order to see if pallets are melt completely I remove the welder's goggles and watch the melt directly after 10 to 15 hours My eyes vision start to blurry. I do not know if NiCr melt emits UV light

I live in Californa and Dr said he only knows uv light will hurt eyes. other form of light may or may not hurt eyes he is not so sure.

Hi & welcome to the forum.

Do the pellets happen to be plastic, PVC or other type? If so, you are most likely using a UV light source of some sort. I worked for years with a Macbeth light booth that had different light sources, such as cool white (office setting), Daylight 65 (emulates North outdoor daylight) and Horizion (yellowish), including UV. Ask your QC personel at your place of work....they will most likely know exactly what kind of light it is, in detail, wave length, watts, and if in fact it could be harmful. Ot at least look on the bulb to see what it says (will be located near the end on the glass) then look it up online.
Then present this info to your doctor. You may have hurt your eyesight at work using that light.
Take care & good luck, LillySmile
Have you had regular eye exams in the past? That would be good evidence if you did. Your age is also a factor. After 50, most people do begin to "slowly" develop cateracts. It's one of those "degenerative" things that the insurance companies like to deny. Your best defense would be prior medical history.
