I've been waiting some time for this to be published and glad to see it has finally been released and in an open and free manner. While lengthy, some hear have an interest in back pain research and it is easy to understand if you gloss over the technical parts.

I should explain that the word phenotype used in the abstract means what can be observed or expressed in an organism so it refers to the different types of pain a person experiences. I rarely post a research article here but I post it here because of it's breadth and that understanding it may be helpful in counseling others.

Let me know what you think if you can make it to the end without falling asleep or to delete it if not the place for it.

I see no need to delete it. Makes for good reading.

I can also say, my treating doctor, had many of those test performed on me back in 2001.
LOL....yes it is what I do. I'm a lot of fun.
What is interesting is that it is addressing why some people with the same problem respond to a certain therapy while others do not; that there are actually two types of back pain and in a manner not previously recognized. In doing so it reiterates the evidence that x-rays, MRI's, CT Scans, injections, and most of all, surgery are of little to no value in chronic back pain as evidenced by the mountains of money spent on these methods in the past 30 years with little to show for it. while the prevalence AND the incidence of disability has increased. Not much value for those already down all these roads but perhaps a better map for those to come.

I am having the same problem. I have tried 5 different ways to DL the site, and it says IE unable to find this page. I too will keep trying, as I am experiencing severe back pain due to the HPN I have at T8-T9 and want to see what it has to say.

I cant seem to get it either but I dont think it is the link. I tried http://www.plosmedicine.org and does the same thing.
Seems the worldwide interest in the article has crashed the Plos site.
here's an article ABOUT it but not the original.. keep searching I guess...

The article at http://www.plosmedicine.org/home.action
is opening now. Guess you just have to keep trying.
Cycler, Thank You Very Much for the Info. it seems the Step Procedure rather than the Current Procedures to Identify Lower Back Pain May be much More Efficient, and Beneficial not Only to the Patient, but for the Dr.'s as Well!! My Pain is Chronic, and if this or any Other Program can Help to Better Evaluate and Reduce My Pain is a Win for Me!! Thanks Again for the Article!!Wink
