Seriously, I have been thinking a lot about getting a hot tub for therapy. If you have one, or know anything about hot tubs, can you please let me know the benefits, good brand to buy, opinions, etc., etc.......and NO!, I am not even going to try and ask WC to pay for it EVEN though I've had doctors who suggested getting one.
Thanks mucho!

CC, it's not an issue that it could help. But, to help you better, the need to know issue is, buying one. So, I ask, how many people do you wish it to hold? That will then determine your purchase cost?
Experts believe that hydrotherapy (the therapeutic use of water) is a fantastic arthritis natural treatment for pain relief.
The warm water which a hot tub or spa provides creates a buoyancy that reduces the strain and pressure on joints. This allows the patient to gently exercise the joint(s) without further damaging the tissues.
If you are looking for an arthritis natural treatment for pain relief, consider investing in a spa or hot tub for your personal medical benefit.
We purchased a hot tub for our daughter who had C.P., it was a great help for her.
Her muscles would become very tight and painful, I would get in the hot tub several times a day with her and do ROM exercises with her.
I seldom use the hot tub for me as I can't take the heat, even at it's lowest setting.
I do love my swimming pool and found it to be the best place for me to do my exercises. Last summer the scar tissue was a major problem with the joint replacement. I would get in the pool and exercise for 45 minutes before physical therapy. It made a huge difference!
The hot tub we purchased for my daughter was a 6 person tub and 15 years ago it cost $5,000.00.
The hot tub we have now is a 4 person tub and we purchased it used for $800.00.
The used hot tub breaks down much of the time but hubby always gets it going again.
If your doctor will write a script for the hut tub showing a medical purpose for the hot tub then you can use it as a tax deduction if you have enough medical to qualify for medical deductions on you taxes.
Unless your planning on having "Tub Parties" I would go with a smaller tub. I have owned a 3-person and a 6-person. When the 3-person tub broke I was able to flip it onto its side and replace all of the plumbing myself. Not so easy with the big ones. Also we never had more than 3 people in the bigger tub anyhow, kind of a waste of power.I do know some people that got the IC to pay for a tub, so it does happen.Won't hurt to ask!!!
I think size-wise I would like a 4-5 person tub, or one big enough to stretch out the entire body for exercising.
I have a covered back yard patio the full length of the house. We had that project done about 5 years ago, and a hot tub would look very nice on it.
Mostly I wll be using it for my neck shoulders, arms and hands; to increase ROM and loosen up and relax the stiffness from the RSD. I heard they are good for muscle spasms which I get all the time in my left arm. My ankle is still very stiff and sore from the achlles rupture, and very sensitive to the touch. I sometimes think I have RSD spread, but try not to go there. Sometimes the mind will play bad games that keep you more disabled than you already are.
Thanks for the answers so far.........You are all so vey kind.
I ChrisChris...glad you are doing well. In terms of a hot tub, Del and I have one attached to the pool. It is a three person hot tub, and Del uses it a lot for pain relief. he said that it looses up his muscles and that decreases his pain quit significantly. Del of course has rigged his up so that he has speakers at the hot tub that come from a large screen tv that hangs from our attic and he can see it from the sliding glass door. Consequently he will set out there for hours watching TV and releasing his pain. Many people do say that hot tubs help them a lot. Good luck in whatever you decide to do. Love Red
It is funny how you are asking this question because the other day my neck was soooooo stiff that I finally after about 2 yrs. decided to go up and use my whirlpool bathtub that has alot of jets and heats the water also. I filled it with hot water and a nice softener for the skin , and grabbed a nice cup of coffee , and a good book ,and lit a few candles and whamooo. I tell you the jets were directly on my neck for about 20 mins massaging it and when I got out of there I felt the best I had felt all week!!!!! I thought, why didn't I do this sooner?
I have had the tub for about 8 yrs. now. It is very deep and is a 2 person tub. The back part has jets for the back which goes all the way up to the cervical area. Also at the other end there is a jet that makes the tub whirlpool around. It felt so good and as you know both you and I have simular problems with pain in our hands/ shoulder/ RSD etc. Since that bath last week it has loosened everything up for me and I have felt great since each passing day. If I did that everyday I think it would be a great benefit. The tub alone uses alot of water.
I think if your going to get a hot tub, just make sure the jets are all located in the area you want massaged and you will be fine. I think it will work very well for you and would be a good investment. Like others have said, it won't hurt to ask for PT or someone to suggest you have one and maybe they will pay a percentage of it.
I have some hot tube therapy in mind and that was not it.Mine was more like well I better leave my thoughts out of that one.he,he,he.Im sure BAD BOY can figure out this on.lol.
