What an eye opener I had, so I want to share what I learned recently.

I have been taking Lipitor for several years for high cholesterol. Even when I was 40 and under 120 lbs. my cholesterol was over 275.

I recently had to find a new Primary Care Doctor (not WC) and on my last visit I told him that I ache all over, and it feels like I've developed some sort of all-body arthritis. He immediately took me off Lipitor for 2 weeks to see if it helped. To my surprise it did, so we had a telephone conference and he told me to start taking 200 mg. per day of OTC CoQ10, and then in a month, we would add back the statin and a high dose of Vitamin C.

Why I am telling you this is because I have since told this to another doctor and he told me there is so much literature coming out on this subject and he is also adding CoQ10 to anyone he prescribes statins to.

The reason is because the manufactor of the statins has never disclosed that the aches and pains associated with taking these drugs is due to the fact that they deplete a bodies natural enzyme CoQ10. CoQ10 helps protect the blood vessels and heart muscle, and when depleted by statins can cause what is known as a "statin induced myophethy."

Many people on statins alone suffer needlessly and have more heart attacks and strokes than people who take CoQq10 along with the statins.

Now why hasn't our doctors told us about this before? Some have, but not any of mine. I believe it is because the pharmaceutical companies producing the statins don't want people to know why.

My doctor has also said that once I add the Lipitor back with the CoQ10, he wants to add at least 2000 mg. of Vitamin C daily. The effects of vitamin C taken along with a statin and CoQ10 helps to further reduce the bad cholesterol and increase the good cholesterol, and protect the heart and blood vessels, and internal organs.

Don't believe this just because I am telling you a summary only of what I have researched. Go online, or in the medical journals yourself and study the effects of Statins, CoQ10, and Vitamin C when used together. It just might save your life.

Hope you all have a good weekend. Tongue Tongue
Thanks CC, I was on Lipitor for 6 years , then switched by my PCP to Crestor and yes I do have the aches you describe. You can believe I will check it out.
Thanks for the info.
Wow Cycler, you searched high and low to discount my post.

I am not advocating for people to stop taking statins. I myself took them for many years without any problems until recently. As we age, our systems change. I will continue to take statins, along with CoQ10 and Vitamin C, as my doctor advises.

Tuffy, talk to your doctor about this before making any changes on your own. Ok?
Don't worry CC, I wouldn't do anything without my DR's approval, I will mention it to her on my next visit. And thanks for the heads up!.
Hi Chris, and Thanks for the Info.!! I Take Simvistatin 40mg. Daily, and I will Surely Talk to My Dr. about this, I have to go Tuesday for Blood Work due to a Slightly High Liver Count. Thanks Again, and Have a Great Day!!Wink
Let me know what your doctors say about the CoQ10 and Vitamin C added with the Statins. I'm really curious about this. Hope you all have a great week! Tongue
Here is what Mayo Clinic has to say. Sounds good to me Chris...

Inhibition by statins and beta blockers
Coenzyme Q10 shares a common biosynthetic pathway with cholesterol. The synthesis of an intermediary precursor of Coenzyme Q10, mevalonate, is inhibited by some beta blockers, blood pressure-lowering medication, and statins, a class of cholesterol-lowering drugs. Statins can reduce serum levels of coenzyme Q10 by up to 40%. Some research suggests the logical option of supplementation with coenzyme Q10 as a routine adjunct to any treatment that may reduce endogenous production of coenzyme Q10, based on a balance of likely benefit against very small risk.

Foods with Coenzyme Q10, eat mackerel and herring.

It actually advocates for your post. It says that while there is no randomized controlled studies as it would be a massive undertaking with no real point as Dr.s are becoming more and more aware and there is no harm to taking CoQ10. I take Lipitor and CoQ10.
