Hello everyone, my sister's house burned down a week ago last monday and she lived out in the country, so there were a few volunteer fire department that responded to the fire, she told me yesterday she received a bill for 10, 000 dollars from one of them, I thought this is why you pay taxes. She is just hoping the insurance company pays this because they lost everything.Any opinions on this?
I really dont know Half.....I know they have to get funds somewhere but from where I dont know.....Here each fireman is paid for the fires he goes to not a salary but I assumed our taxes paid them....as I live in the country I quess I better check into this and adjust my home insurance
Halftrak..sorry but since when do volunteers get paid anything?????
Capricorn
The property taxes I pay each year on my home & land a certian amount goes to fund the fire department in my township.
they are volunteer in their training and the fact it isnt a job to them.....here they have regular jobs but when the whistle blows they leave their jobs(to include our bank president) to fight the fire...they are paid a very minamal amount that covers the WC and taxes....every month it is put in the paper what they make....some months nothing some months almost a hundred dollars....without them we would have no fire dept at all as there just isnt the funds to pay for a full time force.....Big cities may have the funds but not us small ones....they go out and pull people outa wreaked cars, burning buildings and are also first responders if a medical call goes out they many times get there before the ambulance.....and they are only paid when they go...they are worth 1000 times what they are paid.....IMHO
They Probably sent the Bill Hoping the Ins. Co. Pays, especially if they came from a Township Different than the One Your Sister Lives in. If the Ins. doesn't Cover, I would Venture to Guess that they won't Push Your Sister too Hard to Pay it, they are just Hoping to Recoup some Monies from the i/c if Possible. If it Really gets Touchy, and they Press Her Hard to Pay, and the Ins. Doesn't Cover, My Opinion Only, the Bill should go to Her Township, they are the Ones that Called the Other Fire Dept. in for Support! Give Her My Best Hurt, and let Us know what You find out about this Situation!
halftrak,
I have never heard of this but I guess it is because of the area that I live. We pay taxes for this service. I think Still is on to something as to what he stated. Lord have mercy, how can you get blood from a turnip. My lord, your sister did not need that burden. Prayers are with her.
