I was approved for Voc-Rehab training last week and the "specialist" asked what I would like to be trained for. Given the current job market I have no idea. I was a heavy duty truck driver for 20 years and now can't lift more than 10 pounds. The thought of sitting at a desk all day is not for me. Any ideas???
park rangers and game wardens seem to be out alot in their trucks around here but not doing heavy lifting. is that something you might be interested in?
That is actually a great idea Jayne, I never thought of that but I love being outside and driving around. I think I will look into that.
great.......glad to help
Very good idea, but I was told by voc counselor, they don't hire much and that was before the recession.
How about building inspector? They drive around a lot, don't do any lifting, although they might have to crawl sometimes. Construction will climb out of hole next year and they make decent money. Just a thought.

Another suggestion would be a compliance monitor. I use to be a monitor of the CACFP, a federal funded program.

I traveled 5 counties in my state and visited each site, I had a check list (form)
I completed. I gave one copy to the site manager and one to the head office, kept one for my records.
If I have to Retrain for anything, I'm going to Ask the Voc. Rehab Person if I could be a Professional Bar Stool Weight!!! I'm willing to Take Drinking 101, (I know I could Ace that), and Proper Stool Setting Etiquette!!Tongue Just Kidding, trying to Lighten things Up a Bit!!Smile
Thanks for the Ideas. Unfortunately where I live the Building Inspectors are town by town and almost a volunteer position. I do also like the compliance idea though, When I was going through all of my colon surgeries the company that I was working for "created" a position for me monitoring all of the drivers (120 of them) to make sure they were in compliance with D.O.T. regulations. That was nice cause I would spend 3 days a week just riding with various drivers of my choice and then 2 days in the office going over driver logs, vehicle inspection reports and such.Unfortunately when Dr. released me to full duty that position was terminated. As I said it was "created" for me and a lot of people were upset about that. Please keep the ideas coming.Still, I have already been trained for the bar stool position, but there are not any openings for that around here either. Every stool is full!!!!!
