Once again the old REDNECK needs help with homework. This is a math problem, but it is for chemistry. I need to write the formula in the form od dimensional analysis.

Determine the volume (in mL) of 1.0 teaspoon. 1 tablespoon = 3 teaspoon. 1 tablespoon = 1/2 fluid ounce. 1 ounce = 29.57 mL.

I am able to figure out the answere. 29.57 mL / 2 / 3 = 4.93 mL

For some reason I can not figure out how to write the problem using dimensional analysis.

I am greatfull for any help. In the mean time I am going to study something easier. Pre-calculas.
I don't know if this link will help or not my friend...

If you google dimensional analysis lots of stuff comes up. Maybe it will jar the answer for you Smile

Prefix Abbreviation Meaning Example
mega- M 106 1 megameter (Mm) = 1 x 106 m
kilo- k 103 1 kilogram (kg) = 1 x 103 g
centi- c 10-2 1 centimeter (cm) = 1 x 10-2 m
milli- m 10-3 1 milligram (mg) = 1 x 10-3 g
micro- 10-6 1 micrometer (g) = 1 x 10-6 g
nano- n 10-9 1 nanogram (ng) = 1 x 10-9 g

(4) Convert 50.0 mL to liters. (This is a very common conversion.)
It has been a long time, but I believe you would do the following equation.

1 TBS = 29.57 ml
3 tsp = 1 TBS

3tsp X 1TBS = 1 tsp
1 TBS 29.57 ml X ml (9.86 ml)

I hope I did this right with all the underlines etc... This has been a long way past..hope it helps...may be wrong... I am not sure but it is to my best memory. Red
AQA...my answer is different than yours, so I must have done something wrong. What did I miss? Red
29.57 x 2 onces =

2 Tabelspoons = 6 Teaspoons

Divide 6 into answer of > 29.57 x 2 =

And you will have the answer Red
BBBB....yours comes up to mine as well... 29.57 X 2 = 59.14 / 6 = 9.8566666 or 9.86. AQA is less than that for some reason ... love Red
RED, the way you wrote it the first time is the way the problem needs to be written. So it looks like fractions. That is what I am having trouble with coming up with.

As far as the math part. the way I read it is
1 ounce = 29.57 mL
1 TBS = 1/2 ounce = 14.785 mL
3 tsp = 1 TBS = 1/2 ounce = 14.785 mL
If I divide 14.785 mL by 3 tsp I get 4.928

I see what you and BBBB did, you missed one step. (1 Tablespoon = 1/2 ounce, which is 14.785 mL.

Thank you all for your help.

Monster, I am going to check out that site. Thank you
1 ounce 1Tpl 1/2 ounce 3Tsp
__________ _____ _________ _________
29.57 3 Tea 14.785 4.98

1 ounce 1Tpl 1/2 ounce 3Tsp
__________ _____ _________ _________
29.57 3Tsp 14.785 4.98
AQA...I believe you would write this like this:

29.57ml 14.785ml 14.785 ml = 4.938ml
2 TBS = 1 TBS = 3 tsp

I think this is right. See what you think? Red
