Probably Jayne Or Red would know about this, Well My husband took a voluntary layoff because he was more than likely to get layed off and he served 7 years in the air force and is a vietnam vet, can he get insurance for himself thru the VA?Or what exactly can he get?Any info from any of you guys would be great. Thanks Halftrak.
halftrac does he have a service connected disabilty? such as PTSD......some okla.employment services have a special person that comes in to help vets find a new job..I dont know if that holds true in other states but you are in Okla so your ok just call your unemplyment services and see what day they come in....you do know he can try for a job at the post office and other goverment jobs he will get extra points for being a vet...I am sure he can be seen at the Va but I am not sure how that works as Bill always used champus.Good luck Jen I know this is a scary time for you....

My sister's husband is also a vietnam vet and in the past had no health insurance. He receives his medical care from the VA hospital as well as all of his medications.

After he was laid off from his job he later found a job in law enforcement.
My Son and Brother-in-Law were both in the Navy, and from what I Understand, if You have an Honorable Discharge from the Armed Forces, You have the Right to Care from the VA. Hospitals for Life! Please Correct Me if I'm Wrong Red or Jayne!!Wink
Halftrak...My first husband is a Vietnam Vet. He contracted Lyme desease and has no health insurance. Was in the VA hospital for almost 6 months. All of his medical care and medications comes form them. It's a lifelong benefit if as Limbo said there is an honorable discharge.

thank you all for all the replies you gave me. Monday he will go to the unemployment office to sign up for unemployment.I think I will call the VA office to check out what he can get.he decided to take the severence package they offered because they were talking about laying off most people that had under 10 years he was there almost 9.33 percent of their workforce is supposed to get layed off this coming month. He got almost a half years salary. So we are going to pay off some bills and stash some back.If he would have waited he would have only gotten 2 weeks pay and a handshake. I think he did the right thing. I don't worry about him working we have been married 27 years and he has been unemployed only 2 days out of that time.Yes almost forgot he got a honorable discharge and was a sargeant. thank guys
