If the only money you are getting through to live on is a pension from Britian and workmans compensation payments and neither are taxable income.......do you still file taxes? And how? As I understand it, if you don't file and some sort of stimulus package comes through..........you don't get a thing from that package.
stimulus package is really a percentage off the taxes they expect you to pay at the end of the year....I was disapointed this year when I took in our tax paperwork to hear that the stimulus package they gave us last summer was being taken from my tax return this year.....I have no idea how this will work with those who pay no taxes yet recieved a stimulus check.....Should have known the avarage Joe wasnt gonna get a break
Yes I know. I got a $300 stimilus last year, because I earned so much less the year before. Now I have earned nothing. I thought that you couldn't be taxed on the stimilus check.

What bothers me is that all of these benefits that are out there are for workers, or unemployed people, not for the people stuck on workmans comp. Now that I am alone I don't even have the help of another earner in the house.
Hi all...bagpuss... i don't pay any taxes at all. My VA is exempt and my SSDI is not enough to pay on so until Del obtains a job, we have not had to file for two years. However, this last year, to obtain the stimulus package, Del and I had to file a 1040A so that we could obtain the package otherwise we would not be filing. I would search this on the computer or call a tax person and ask them. Good luck Love Red
I am thinking that that is what I need to do. I had heard something about it last year, but never really paid attention since I had earned something at least. I was rather upset, though, that I got half of what I thought I would be getting because I hadn't earned enough....just under enough. And I really needed the money last year as well. This year is much worse.
I am pretty sure I read that the stimulus checks were not taxable...maybe check the irs website I think that's where I read it.
Monster the way the tax lady explained it to me is if I had forty dollars coming back and the stimulus check was twenty dollars then all I got back was twenty cuz they had already given me twenty earlier in the year...does this make sense?
I guess I will put my 2 cents in. So far the "stimulas package" that the president is talking about. Has nothing to do with anyone getting a check like we did with Bush's plan. The last I heard, which was this evening. There is talk about people not having to pay the minimum tax. There is no telling where it will go.

Under Bush's plan, if we recall. we were able to file late for his stimulas check. The reason for that was because people that received payments from SSA, that never filed needed to, to get the check. I believe that if OBAMA's plan is simular (I don't think it will be) the same will take place.
AQA you are absolutely right. I am thinking, though, that somewhere along the line there might, just might, be another one like the one Bush gave out.
Anything is possible, I believe what ever is going to happen. We will here about it on the National news and it will be within the next few weeks. Possible as soon as the end of this week.
