Something happened last Saturday that gave me a scare.
The last few weeks the nerve pain in my legs & hips has increased, I shared this with the doctor and he placed me on sedentary restrictions last week.
I was out shopping trying to get some things done before leaving for Kansas City. I had been to a couple of stores, short trips in and out of the store.
Next, I was the Dillon’s grocery store getting a few groceries which I placed in the top basket of the shopping cart to keep from bending as per my doctor's restrictions.
I had been having nerve pain down my legs & in my feet with a heavy weighted feeling in my right leg the entire shopping trip but I am a stubborn, just do it person and continued on.
In the Dillon’s grocery store after going down 2 isles I started having extremely intense pain with a weighted feeling in my right leg, foot and low back and I couldn't move my right foot.
I am a stuborn person although I didn't know if I would be able to get out of this store under my own steam.
I stood leaning on my cart for a few minutes before I could move although I continued to have intense pain, I checked out and with assistance went to my van. I wasn't able to drive right away until the pain let up.
I noticed the next morning I wasn't able to bend my toes and when I did try I have very intense pain in that foot.
I am waiting the judge's decision on adding the back to my claim.
Has anyone experienced similar symptoms?
My family doctor is providing care for problems with my back and I
have an appointment in 2 weeks, do I need to let him know about this previous to my appointment?
call your doc today...it could be nothing then again it sounds likes there may be a problem
Bummer, You are Describing My Life every Time I go Shopping for any Length of Time! The Concrete of the Store Floors have no Give, and You are Aggravating the Inflamed Nerves, and You May have Pinched a Nerve Throughout the Day. Hopefully in a Couple of Days Your Foot will Improve. I only go Out to Shop now when I have 3 or 4 things to do, and I am Quick about getting in and Out of the Store. Remember You are Agitating Your Back while Driving, getting In and Out of Your Vehicle, and also in the Stores. If this Happens Again, Lean on Your Cart and Lift Your Foot from the Floor, and Hold it Up until You feel the Pain Start to Subside. Sometimes it only Takes a Minute, Sometimes 5 Minutes, but You will feel Relief. After that the Shopping is Over, get Home and Lay, and allow the Pressure to Recede from the Inflamed Nerves. Your Attorney has to Start Fighting as Hard as they can to get You Care for Your Back, what You are Describing is an Advanced Symptom of Possible Nerve Damage, and with the Correct Care and the Right amount of Time, You may be able to Allow those Nerves to Repair themselves! My S1 Nerve Root is Crushed and Encapsulated in Scar Tissue and cannot be Repaired so I have to Live My Life walking Chemically, I would Hate to See that Happen to You or Anyone, not Even My Worst Enemy!! Be Well, and Please let Us know how Your Hearing Goes!!
P.S.- Since My Surgery in '05 the Entire Right side of My Right foot is Numb, and will be for Life. When I walk too much, it feels like My Foot is Getting Thicker, and I'm Walking Off of Balance, so I Understand how Your Back can Cause Foot Pain and Issues, and by the Pain getting that far, You Definitely have some form of Nerve Impingement or Nerve Inflammation. I Hope You Win so that You can get the Care You need, and Hopefully they can get that Pain to Subside!!!
Hi bummer...what you experienced is a very scary experience, and i can completely relate. Obviously a nerve is being obstructed from somewhere in your lower spinal cord to your pheriphal nerves leading towards your leg and foot. Prior to my diagnosis, about 6 months, I was running the base parameter as I typically did early one morning and suddenly, what happened to you happened to me minus the pain. My left leg and foot were very heavy, uncoordinated, weak and I was not able to control it or to make it move forward, so I went down and sat on the ground for about 2 hours... then I walked my way back in. THe heaviness is an intense numbness where your body from the bones outward are not getting nervous signals therefore does not have the feeling or ability to function as before. This could be just a severe pinched nerve somewhere but it could be a pheriphal nerve that is damaged. My best recommendation is to call your doctor, see him today, while your leg is as it is now. He needs to send you to a neurologist if you are not already seeing one. A neuro examine if done by your doc or a neuro should somewhat narrow down the possibilities of what is happening. I do this and then it comes back sometimes as many times times a 3 per day. This most likely is not a permanent thing so do not worry too much, but do see your doctor. Love Red
Thank you Red & Still In Limbo
I truly was scared when this happened.
After listening to the attorney for the insurance company in court last week I was having doubts about myself. This attorney told the judge all I had was a back strain and that the IME doctor's opinion was that I needed no future treatment.
And then this happened 2 days later.
Right now I am under directions from the doctor in Kansas City not to drive and to stay put, I am not to do any activity that will increase my heart rate and I am on sedentary restrictions from this doctor.
The rest may have come at a good time.

I didn't realize the stress of getting in & out of a vehicle would have on my back!
I do have problems driving when I experience the nerve pain because the right side is my worse.
I see my family doctor February 3rd and he wants me scheduled for a nerve conduction test.
My attorney said to go ahead and do the test and send him the results.
Do I need to contact my attorney and let him know about the problems I experienced while shopping?
Bummer, it's always best to carry you note pads with you. Write down Dates and times, and where and what is happening. Keep a log of your daily issues. Then you can share that, not only with your Attorney, but also with the Court.
I would call my doctor, and have them get this on record for you also.
Has an MRI or anything been done yet?
I always Contact my Attorney when any Major Problem Occurs, and He Posts it in My Case File, and I Call Him Again after I have Seen the Dr., and with the Info. the Dr. gave Me. That keeps them Updated, and gives them a Reminder to Use when in the Hearings. He may want to File a Petition for Medical Care if Your Dr. is able to find what is Causing Your Problem. You are having a Nerve Conduction Test soon, have You ever had an MRI with/without Contrast in a Closed MRI Concentrating on Your Lower Back? Many Times that could show Problems, and Sometimes You have to have a Disco-Gram, which I have Never Had, and I Understand is Very Uncomfortable. Please let Us know what You find Out!!
Bad Boy
Thank you, I will call my doctor when I get off line.

The last MRI/without contrast was April 2008. It showed 3 bulging disc.
I had a discogram October 2007, it showed a marked grade 4 leaky disc and a couple of other minor things.
The problems with my back has been going on since my injury in 2005.

I re-read your post about the numbness in the foot.
A few months ago I noticed numbness in my foot, first it was my ankle and now it has spread accross the top and side of my foot.
This happens when I am on my feet for very long. I told my doctor about this and that is when he said I need a nerve conduction test.
BK, Everyone else has offered you there opinion, There is not much more I can add, even though my injury was to the lower back. I at times have the same symptoms but in my case I have had nothing done to date. No surgery etc, only PT But Who knows what I will have to look to in the future. I agree with the others, call your Attorney and your DR.
