TULSA, Okla. (AP) -- An Oklahoma City surgeon who made international headlines several years ago after performing a risky operation that left a young Russian boy brain dead has agreed not to practice medicine while under investigation by state medical officials, The Associated Press has learned.
Paul Christopher Francel is listed as "not practicing" as of Dec. 24, according to Oklahoma Board of Medical Licensure and Supervision records.
Additionally, since June 2007, Francel has been named as a defendant in at least five civil lawsuits claiming medical negligence, court records show.
