Full Version: Comp for dependent children?

Do I need comp for my 18yo son, he lives at home, attends college and works part time in our business.
Each state has their own laws on comp and coverage requirements. you can contact a local insurance broker for information on your state requirements or go to the work comp website maintained by your state. most have coverage requirements posted.
without knowing your state it's the only information I can provide.

California. I looked for that info, but couldn't find it. Seems like if he's already insured by us, he wouldn't need comp.

Other insurance excludes work injury coverage.
Yes the only exception in similar situation would be for an individual farm for the live-at-home children under 12.
All other employment has to be covered and included in the work comp policy.
California has very few exceptions for work injuries.

P.S. I assume you are paying them.
"volunteers" can be an exception to the definition of employee.
