I work in property management and I have an employee out healing from surgery due to a work related injury. Our company gives him money off his rent each month for living onsite. Do we still give him his rent credit if he is not working but due to a work related injury? We are in Utah.
That is usually up to the company and not really a wc issue. Many companies will continue different benefits or "perks" as a good will gesture to a valued employee.

Thanks!

I would think like Kate said it would be a good jesture seeing he did not ASK to get hurt and it happened. It will be hard enough making wc money while recovering. It is difficult enough nevermind having to worry how to pay the bills. Just my opinion of course.

My company was very good to me and paid my health insurance for 7 months without making me pay one penny back. I think that is a good jesture on their part and made me happy to know my company cared how I was during my injury.
I also agree with Kate & Sparkey, When Hospital was sending me home I had no way to get in my house with wheelchair. WC was dragging thier feet on oking for a ramp. My employer called wc or thier insurance and said look I pay my rates now build this guy a ramp so he can get in his home. They backed me up then and still do, if you value this person give him/her a little help. My oppinion.
THIS REMINDS ME OF OVERTIME PAY FOR INJURED WORKERS. IN MOST STATES IT IS NOT ALLOWED--HOWEVER THE LOOP HOLE IS IF THE EMPLOYEE WAS CONSISTENTLY WORKING OVERTIME (RECIEVING PAY, BENEFITS ,ETC. ABOVE THEIR INITIAL PAY) (USUALLY THEY LOOK AT A ROLLBACK OF ONE YEAR) THEN THE EMPLOYEE IS ENTITLED TO PAY, AND WHEN IT COMES DOWN TO IT THAT IS REALLY WHAT YOU ARE GIVING HIM. NOT TO MENTION IF YOU ARE GIVING HIM A DISCXOUNT ON RENT FOR LIVING ON SITE HE IS RESPONSIBLE FOR SOME ASPECT OF THE PROPERTY WHICH WOULD REQUIRE SOME SORT OF WORK--SURVIELLENCE---SO I THINK YES. EVEN IF HE IS NOT CAPABLE TO DO WORK AROUND THE BUILDING --BY CONTINUING HIS DISCOUNT YOU WOULD RETAIN A LOYAL INDIVDUAL WHO ALTHOUGH INJRED WOULD BE SURE TO LET YOU KNOW OF ANY ISSUES AT THE COMPLEX
IT'S NICE TO SEE SOME EMPLOYEES THAT MIGHT NOT KNOW THE LAW BUT ARE WILLING TO TAKE THE EXTRA STEP TO FIND THE ANSWERS AND BE FAIR TO THEIR EMPLOYEE

CHEERS!!!!

ME!!!!
I know this is getting off topic, but I had to comment to Bronco. You are very lucky, obviously your employer is not self insured. I think it is awesome your employer looks out for you. I just wish others were so lucky. Good For You..
I've said many, many times... When an employer treats their injured employees correctly, the claims are less costly and they are better able to retain valued employees (trained, experienced, loyal, etc.)

Sometimes, putting out a little extra money AND EFFORT, can reduce the employer's costs tremendously.

From an adjuster's point of view, this is just something for employers to keep in mind.
The worker deserves the credit since it's a work related injury. As a valued employee, give back to your workers what they deserve.

Yes you do give him his housing our he can get more on his check he would report what the fair market rent in the area is and that would be part of his pay Im a pm and when I was hurt they have to either let me stay in home or now that I couldnt go back to work and had to move they WC put my rent in for part of my salary along with utlitys, phone, internet, water, garbage, sewer all the costs owner gave me is put in a dollar amount and that goes into your bi weekly form WC
