I treasured last week as I had several good days.

Today I am making up for last week with continuous nerve pain in my right leg & foot.

I do have a question I hope someone can help me with.

I wear tennis shoes and they are not tight fitting but I am having lots of pain accross the top of the foot and ankle area along with the nerve pain.

I know others on the forum experience similar nerve pain.

Are ther certian types of shoes that are better to wear then tennis shoes?

Thank you
Bummer Knees

Bummer... my prosthetic's guy at the VA told me to buy tennis shoes called (I believe this is what they are called...I have some upstairs....will check in a few minutes when I go back up..."balance." You can buy them at sears. I hope this helps. Love Red
Thank you Sweets, Jayne & Red

In the past I have worn simple, low cost tennis shoes from Wal Mart, I can't find them this time of year.

The tennis shoes I am now wearing are a better quality, but hurt my feet and I feel may increase the nerve pain.

I will checkout the shoes you suggest Red & Jayne and let you know what I findout.
Bummer,

I decided to do a little search as I do not feel it is because of your shoes that you have this problem. Enclosed is a link I have for you to read if interested. I was also diagnosed with the Per. neuropathy in my hand. I know you do not like to take medication as I have read, but Cymbalta is a good one for the sort of pain you are feeling. Also in the article it mentions acupuncture treatments. I have always wanted to try that and never did. Maybe someday I will finally make an appointment to have it and see if it would work for my nerve pain.

Hope this helps to answer your questions about the foot pain. Also it mentions inserts that you can get a ortho doctor to provide. Maybe this and the cymbalta may help relieve some pain. Good luck.

Red, I am unawawre of the name brand you stated. I was wondering if the name brand could have been "new balance"??? Just curious.

BK, I do not have pain across the top of my foot. Mine is on the left side and left bottom. I also suffer from pain at the ackle. There are days I wish the foot was just cut off. This coming week I see the PM and neuro-surgeon. I will be requesting an increase in the meds at the PM meeting and at the neuro meeting I am going to request to be seen by a ortho dr. in reference to some shoes. I will let you know what happens.

Bummer..I seem to have a combo of everyone here. Prefer the summer so nothing is touching my toes. Most of my pain, like AQA's, is on the bottom, side and ankle but I do sometimes have that pain you describe in my toe that goes all the way up the top of my foot to my ankle. I have shopped and shopped. New Balance comes highly recommeded by podiatrists. They have a very roomy toe box so no pinching. They come in all different widths and styles. I had a hard time finding a pair that worked for me. I bought the New Balance 811 and love them . They look like they might be heavy but aren't. I also wear diabetic socks that I found at this specialty shoe store. The brand name is Wigwam. They have no seams which of course Sweet understands. Being a diabetic the seams and knots could drive you crazy. I like this brand because they aren't thick and heavy. I bought them in black for a nice pair of black suede walking shoes I bought that look a little dressier and white for my sneakers and jeans. I have always had bad feet to begin with and with the addition of the nerve pain and diabetes I was desperate. This combo has worked for me. Best of luck.

Thank you AQA, Sparkey, & Cap

It looks like I have some research to do. I was up till 3:00 this morning with the nerve pain it has calmed down at this moment.

Most the time I have the nerve pain on the bottom and sides of the foot, lately it also has been the top of the foot.

I had an x-ray of the ankle last month and it was okay.
If you were to do searches under (Heel Spurs) you will find the shoes, and also proper shoe inserts that help with almost all foot & ankel concerns. (New Balance) was the top of the list shoe, while I do remember Rebocks was also in line with New Balance. When buying the shoes, you must make sure you have the proper width, and the size must give your toes plenty of side to side room, plus forward toe room. I do think most of that has been said by the others here though.
