My sister works at the local school district office in accounting.
The office where she works has some drainage problems causing mold to build up in the wall near her desk.
Yesterday my sister had problems breathing while at work. Her boss drove her to the hospital; she was seen in ER and admitted.
I visited her this morning, she is on oxygen and her oxygen saturation is improving. 3 EKG's have been done since admission showing some mild abnormalities.
The district is aware of the problem with the mold and is working to fix the problem.
I found out this morning this is the 3rd time my sister has experienced problems with breathing since the mold developed.
My sister used her health insurance, if she files work comp she will lose her job.
Oh Bummer...I feel so bad. will say prayers. Why will she be fired? Just for filing? That's against the law. I have a mold allergy so know how horrible it can be. A school District should know they can't fire an employee for filing a WC claim. Each time this happens as you can see her lungs will get weaker. This time she ended up in the hospital. Maybe a legal consult is in order. Let us know.
CAP
I'm sorry to hear this of your sister. But, as you said, if she files work comp she would be fired? Well, then she can also file a complaint after they fire her with the EEOC of that State then. If she doesn't file W/C, then she has no one to blame later if her condition worsens, or becomes to a point where she can't work, then what?
Bummer.....this is terrible news about your sister. Mold can really affect a person's lungs just as Cap said. Each time her lungs will grow weaker. I agree with BB BB, she does need to file for w/c because what about tomorrow. Good luck ...and she is lucky that she has you to assist with this. Love Red
sorry to hear about your sister will keep her in our prayers
Bummer- sorry to hear your sister is so ill, will keep her in my prayers. Please talk to her about filling W/C. She will need the protection as this will bother her for a long time and as BBBB and Red said it could get worse.
bummer, my sister recently found some mold in the basement of her daughters grade school and told the principal, my sister is president of the pta of that school and has volunteered for years cleaning out old file boxes, helps in the library etc, anyways the principal kind of hee hawed around for about a week and my sister told her if the problem didn't get taken care of she would take the matter to the school board if that didn't do any good then she would start calling the big city new stations. The mold was in a room right next to the orchestra room and some kids were having allergy problems, asthma and other problems. So I guess they finally got this resolved.I hope your sister gets well and is still able to keep her job, wish her luck for me, halftrak
Bummer, I'm so sorry to hear about the problems that your sister is having. I have to agree with everyone else, she should either go ahead and file this with W/C and/or talk to a lawyer about it. I wish her the best. It's good that she has a sister like you to help guide her thru this.

My sister is home from the hospital. Her oxygen saturation improved enough where she could go home.
My sister will continue to have problems if the mold in the office is not taken care of.
Today she made the statement to me, "I can return to work if I get a machine that cleans the air, and place it by my desk" is she crazy?
I will speak to her tomorrow about filing a work comp claim.
We also foundout she has a small blockage, and it was causing her chest pains.
Bummer....I really am concerned about your sisters statement about returning to work with the mold still on the walls etc. Is the company going to fix this problem. maybe she should ask for a new office or place to work. Love Red
