CC. thank you. I can't respond with my opinion because of the atmosphere here lately. I will say that Obama was the one who said "some will vote for me because I'm black and some will not vote for me because I'm black"
I hope its not but humans being what they are is most likely will be,just as there are those who thought Hillary or Sarah cant be president or vice because they are female....when we cant find a good logical reason for not liking them we can always fall back on race or gender
In the Public Arena, Many will Say that Race is not a Factor, so that they won't be Ridiculed for Their Beliefs. But as CNN and Other News Organizations have Said, when the Day to Vote Comes, and they Pull the Curtain, and No One can See, Their Racism will Come Out. This Race I Believe is going to be a lot Closer than Most Think, and I know Obama has done a Great Job at getting the Young Vote, which will Help Him Also. And always Remember Racism goes both Ways, there will be Many African Americans Voting for Obama Based on Race alone. As I said Before, this Race is going to be a Close One in My Opinion!Wink
Gosh I hope not! Just everyone VOTE for the Man you think will run this beautiful country to their best ability!
Babe....God willing every American will make an educated decision and vote for the candidate they feel is best. I am an Obama man and especially seeing the interview that General Colin Powell gave last night. I'm sure alot will feel he is an Obama man because they are both black but they are small , close minded people. Limbo speaks the truth about this and I really hope we are all beyond it.
Babe, Please don't think I Condone this Behavior, I grew up in a Racist Home, and have Worked Very hard to Rid Myself of it, and I Taught My Children to Look at People and Judge them by Their Actions, not Their Color! It's just a Sad Truth, and as I said it Will go Both Ways, I have Met Many Prejudiced People of Color in this Country, I Traveled Widely in My Work, and Moved Many Races to Their New Homes, and You would not Believe Some of the things I've Seen and Heard! And when I say People of Race, I'm not Only Speaking of African Americans, I have Moved Many Other Races as Well! I Hope Some Day this World would be Prejudice Free, if not for Us, for Our Children and Grand Children!!Wink
Still,
I am of hispanic decent but I call myself an American. I do not like to tell people my nationality because I feel that people are judged by the nationality and not by who they truly are. I have a saying, "Never judge a book by its cover wait and read the table of content and some of the chapters before passing any opinions." My mother & I lived in an italian neighborhood and when I was called the "N" word because I was dark skinned (It was a suntan woud you believe) in a white area...you never forget it. So when Race was brought up during this whole election I turn a deaf ear to it...because it is pure BS! People need to stop the race talk all together. The God I know doesn't care about the color of anyones skin why should I or anyone else?!Smile
great question....

very much so.
Race, gender, religion, wealth, speech/accent, nationality. All the most obvious traits will be used by other humans to identify and catagorize and build a first impression. these factors play the largest part in how closely a voter identifies with the candidate.
Voter/Candidate homogeneity is the greatest factor in voter selection.
After first impressions are formed. things like similar likes and dislikes, background, jobs, living conditions, family life etc. start the process of acceptance.
later ideas, beliefs, values, become the stuff of trust/distrust.
analyze how/who your best friends were or who you dated and who you married; the process is similar only much shorter and very compressed.
skin color is very important if your vote will be based on first impressions; less so if there's been time to explore ideas and values.

I don't think we could elect a black without this extra long and media saturated election process--- not enough opportunities to get beyond a first impression.

my two cents.....
