Does anyone have a multifunction printer that prints, scans, copies, and faxes? I am looking for a new printer and was wondering what everyone would suggest. I was also wondering how the fax part of it works? Do you have to have a seperate number or does it work on your home phone number? I don't have to fax very often, but for the times that I do need one, it would be nice to have one here.
Any suggestions would be very much appreciated. Oh and another question is, does anyone go to places like Walgreens to refill their own color cartridges? Can you do that with HP cartridges?
Thanks in advance! You guys are the greatest!
The only part I can answere is that a fax machine will work with your home phone number. You don't need another phone number.
We have a Panasonic fax but it doesn't scan though. We use the same phone line and when we know there is a fax coming in to us we simply do not pick up the phone and the fax machine takes it from there. I've never tried refilling ink cartridges but always heard it was a mess. I buy ink on line at

If you watch for the specials you can get some good prices. I do not buy the oem ink ( too pricey) but their other seems to be OK but I wouldn't want to print a photo with it. I have found out the hard way that if you buy a cheap printer that most likely the ink refills for it will cost more than the printer and the life of the printer will be short. Hope this helps a bit.
I have a Dell ( all in one) I love it but my computer is also a Dell, I do not know if it is compatable with other computers. But it copys, scans prints, and faxs among other things. What computer do you have?
KS - I also have a Dell all in one. It is compatible with my emachine. I buy cartridges at a store here in town, dell is just way to expensive!!! I had my fax working at one time with a different copier but have not had a need for it again so mine is not set up. Good luck and have fun shopping

KS girl,
I have a Dell computer witha Lexmarkx83 printer, copier, scanner and it works great. I have set up my fax with no problem. The all in one printer is older than my computer and has done very well. Like the others have said, you don't need a differant number, it uses your home phone. I have dial-up so I can't send or recieve fax's when I'm online. But I ussually fax when I'm offline anyways. I hope this helps.
Take care
Vickie
Thanks everyone! I wasn't sure how the fax part of it works, but I am now reassured that I would be able to use one. I have a Compaq desktop that I never use anymore, but my kids do, and an HP laptop that I use all of the time. My old printer still works, but it is getting cranky and I would like to have a wireless all in one.
oK kSGIRL,
Here goes, I have a Brother all-in-one A lexmark all in one and a Hp all-in-one the fax part is very easy my brother is an older model and i can just put the papers through the feeder (on top) or I can scan it (flatbed). the other two are flatbeds(scan) once you hook up your printer and turn it on it will ask you what you will be using ie. Fax,printing or scanning. The only thing about being wireless is you will have to connect your phone line to the computer (unplug from wireless modem) and the same goes for sending or receiving. My laptop is wireless I use it all the time while in bed. My desk top is a lexmark and it is connected to the wireless modem I usually use the Emachine with the Lexmark printer . But like someone else said the ink is outrageous I recently bought a new Lexmark printer for only $25.00 still in the box as soon as the other one runs out of ink I will hook it up...loll My ink usually cost about $60.00 :-( . But now Walgreens refills certain ink cartriges for about 25.00 10 for black and 15 for color.
I have the Hp photosmart 2575 all in one
Love it but havent set it up for faxing yet ... but since someones says you dont need a different number I just might try that
Ksgirl,my wife has the same Lexmark that rholmes mentioned,,,pretty good machine, very attrictive price, I had an Interfacing prob. with it though.
I custum built her a server (as I use a server too),But we have a T1 Line, was easily solved once I installed a print server to it .
Rholmes,,,you can refill those cartriges yourself, save a lot of $$$$$.
If you need to know how to do this, let me know.
