is it possiable to draw wc ins and social security diassability at the same time? Ive been off work since sept and my atty says I will never be able to work as a nurse again...just had 3rd back surgery in4 yrs ...should I go ahead and apply?
Zest normally you will draw what is known as a set off amount from SSDI - meaning that they will pay you up to 80% of your wages minus what WC is paying you. It's kind of funny on how they figure it all out really. But if you plan on being out of work for a year or more, then talk to your doctors and get their backing as well and go ahead and apply - there is a 5 month waiting period from the time your off work for ssdi to start paying. Also don't expect to get approved the first time - they only approve a small percentage the first time. But if you do get denied - do not start over either - always appeal the decision
thanks a lot poo...you all have been so much help.....thanks again
your welcome zest - one thing I would recommend is that if you can get all your medical records together and go in person to the SS office if it is close.
If you search of Social Security of SSDI you will find many threads on the subject with lots of good information
I am Receiving Both w/c and SSDI. I was Approved for My SSDI in 3 mos./3wks. without an Attorney. I went to the SS Office as Opposed as doing it Online, but I've Heard Good Results doing it that way also. When My Attorney Won in Court for Me, He started Receiving 20% of My Monthly Check, and SSDI Picked up that Balance. I am Receiving a Total of 80%, as Pooh has Stated of My Average Lifetime Wage, some from w/c, and Some from SSDI. I also have Medicare, which allowed Me to Afford a Prescription Drug Program, so when w/c Tries to Play with My Meds., as they did this Week, I am able to Afford them. There are Many Benefits to getting Your SSDI, it gives You a Bit of Security knowing You are not Totally at the Mercy of w/c! Best of Luck if You Apply, and Have a Great New Year!!
I am still working, but miss a lot of work. Can I apply for Disability now and then leave my job. I live alone and have no one to help me with my rent, etc. I can't afford to be off work with no income for even a month. Unless I quit or get fired from my job and try to get unemployment.
Can you get disability and unemployment. Or does the unemployment stop if you are approved for disability?
Social Security Administration will tell you once you are not working then you can apply for SSDI or SSD.
In Kansas in order to collect unemployment you need to be able to work.
I am getting SSD and WC now
Lilly

Burton,
One cancels out the other. If you are disable you collect disability, if you get fired you get unemployment but in order to get unemployment you have to be able to look for and work a job even if you have restrictions. It's either or but not both.
Good luck and Happy New year
How about if you collect unemployment and apply for Disability, then drop the unemployment if you are approved for Disability? Then I will be able to pay my rent etc. until I am approved for Disability. But if I'm denied Disability, I will still have Unemployment. Sounds confusing doesn't it?
