Forum Announcement: DDoS Attack Affects Some WorkersCompensation.com Services Over Holiday Weekend

Sarasota, FL (WorkersCompensation.com) - A Distributed Denial of Service (DDoS) attack over the holiday weekend briefly disrupted services on the WorkersCompensation.com site. A Data Center in Atlanta, GA where several of the company servers are housed came under an extended and consistent attack New Years Day, which continued throughout the weekend. The result was that the Center was taken offline while network hardening techniques were deployed to defend against the ongoing attack. WorkersCompensation.com servers that control online advertisements, discussion forums, news center stories and nightly backups were affected.

A Distributed Denial of Service (DDoS) attack is an attempt to make an online service unavailable by overwhelming it with traffic from multiple sources. This attack was not directed at WorkersCompensation.com systems, but rather an uplink provider of network services.

The Discussion Forums and CompNewsNetwork News and Blog areas were down much of the weekend. While the primary site was operational, page loads lagged due to the advertising system issues. The company’s primary data related products, FlashFormSSL, WorkCompResearch.com and the Virtual Claims Kit were not affected by this outage.

As of Sunday night all systems had been restored. The company apologizes for any inconvenience it’s users experienced during this time.
