Robber Sentenced In Fraud Case
Tulsa, OK (CompNewsNetwork) - A Tulsa man who pleaded guilty to staging a robbery and faking a workplace injury was sentenced earlier this week in Tulsa County District Court on one count of workers’ compensation fraud, Attorney General Drew Edmondson said.
Christopher Cox, 35, was sentenced Monday to a five-year suspended sentenced and ordered to pay almost $5,000 in restitution after pleading guilty in February.
Investigators with Edmondson’s workers’ compensation fraud unit alleged Cox, a former employee at Westlake Ace Hardware in Broken Arrow, claimed that he was injured after being hit in the head during a robbery at the store.
Cox was treated for the bogus injury through the state’s workers’ compensation system.
Edmondson’s workers’ compensation fraud unit has statewide jurisdiction to investigate and prosecute workers’ compensation fraud.
