Editors Correction: This story was originally and inadvertently reported as a California WC Issue.  It pertains only to the state of Florida. We apologize for any confusion.

Tallahassee, FL (WCNPC) - The Division of Workers' Compensation announces the adoption of Rule 69L-56, F.A.C., Electronic Data Interchange (EDI) Requirements for Proof of Coverage and Claims (non-medical), effective January 7, 2007. This rule requires all insurers to report certain claims information to the Division electronically, rather than on DWC Forms adopted in Rule 69L-3, F.A.C. Insurers and third party administrators currently filing their First Reports of Injury or Illness and Claim Cost Reports via EDI Release 1 will also be required to convert to the new EDI Release 3 national standard required by the rule. A copy of the rule text has been posted to the Division's web site at http://www.fldfs.com/wc/edi_clms.html.

Insurers should also download and review the corresponding Florida Claims Electronic Data Interchange (EDI) R3 Implementation Manual, September 2006, and the corresponding Supplement documents at http://www.fldfs.com/wc/edi_clms.html. The manual (with supplement) contains the electronic filing specifications for sending Claims data, including the Event Table, Element Requirement Table, and Edit Matrix, as well as the EDI Trading Partner Profile documents that are required to be filed with the Division prior to testing.

The rule also incorporates amendments to the POC EDI filing requirements which will become effective April 2, 2007, including the reporting of a new data element, "Transaction Issue Date", and a revised Florida POC EDI R2.1 Implementation Manual. A copy of the revised POC EDI R1.2 Implementation Manual can be found at http://www.fldfs.com/wc/edi_poc.html.

For questions or additional information regarding this rule, please contact Linda Yon, EDI Coordinator, Office of Data Quality and Collection, Division of Workers' Compensation at 850-413-1702, or at Linda.yon@fldfs.com.
