CT Man Charged With Workers' Compensation Fraud

Woodbury, CT (CompNewsNetwork) - Nicholas P. DeGrazia, age 59, was arrested today (January 2, 2009) on a warrant charging him with Workers' Compensation Fraud, a felony punishable by a maximum prison term of twenty years.

According to the arrest warrant affidavit, Mr. DeGrazia reported a work-related injury in July 2006 while employed by Greenwich Coffee of Cheshire.

In providing information to One Beacon Insurance, the workers' compensation carrier for Greenwich Coffee, Mr. DeGrazia misrepresented his weekly pay as $1,400 rather than his actual pay of $700.

The misrepresentation resulted in Mr. DeGrazia being paid more in weekly disability benefits than his actual gross salary had he still been working, the warrant alleges.

The charge against Mr. DeGrazia is merely an accusation, and he is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.

Mr. DeGrazia was released on a written promise to appear in Meriden Superior Court, G.A. No. 7, on January 13, 2009.

The case will be prosecuted by the Workers' Compensation Fraud Control Bureau of the Chief State's Attorney's Office in Rocky Hill.
