Connecticut Plumber Charged With Workers' Compensation Fraud

Hartford, CT (CompNewsNetwork) - The Connecticut Workers' Compensation Fraud Control Bureau of the Chief State's Attorney's Office  announced John J. DiMaggio, age 42, of 67 Maltby Lane, North Branford, Connecticut  was arrested and charged with one count of Workers' Compensation Fraud, a felony carrying a maximum prison term of twenty years.

According to the arrest warrant affidavit, Mr. DiMaggio reported a work-related injury on July 20, 2005, while employed by Yale University as a plumber. Mr. DiMaggio received workers' compensation medical and wage benefits from July 20, 2005 through October 3, 2005, in excess of $7,000.

It is alleged that during the time he was collecting benefits, Mr. DiMaggio was working as a self-employed plumber and was observed doing physical labor and operating construction equipment installing underground plumbing conduits at a Quiznos Sub Shop in Naugatuck. Mr. DiMaggio was paid in excess of $24,000 for his work, according to the warrant.

Mr. DiMaggio was released on a written promise to appear and will be arraigned in New Haven Superior Court, G.A. No. 23.

The charge against Mr. DiMaggio is merely an accusation, and he is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
