Thoughts On Being Selected a LexisNexis Top Workers' Comp Blog

While I was out of the office last week, it was announced that this blog, “From Bob’s Cluttered Desk”, was once again selected by LexisNexis as one of 2012’s “Top 25 Blogs” for the workers’ compensation industry. Within the list, this is one of 4 blogs honored in the “National Blog” category. This is the second year it has earned this designation.

Since the blog is less than 2 years old, I suppose that means I am batting 1000……

Seriously, while I am extremely honored to be selected by the LexisNexis community, I must admit I feel a bit like Admiral Stockdale at the 1992 Vice-Presidential debate, dazed and confused, mumbling, “Who am I? Why am I here?” This is particularly true when you see the company with which I am now included.

There is Managed Care Matters’ Joe Paduda, an extremely intelligent, if not politically misguided, expert within the workers’ compensation industry.

There is Workers Comp Insider, from Lynch Ryan. I am not sure, but I think they, along with Jon Coppelman and Julie Ferguson, invented blogging – at least for our industry.

There is the perennial favorite, Work Comp Roundup, a product of the fertile mind of Rebecca Shafer, a veritable content machine.

Then we have The Official Medicare Set Aside Blog and Information Resource, published by MEDVAL, LLC. This “take no prisoners” blog is a must read on the MSA front, and frequent contributor Jen Jordan’s direct style makes me look like a wimpy political correctness fanatic.

There are others, 20 to be exact, that all specialize in intelligent, in-depth, detailed analysis and review. I, on the other hand, tend to be the Jerry Springer of workers’ comp. I seem to specialize in writing about the “ations” – fornication, defecation, urination, adulteration and the like – anything I can loosely tie to workers’ comp or employer risk management.

And sometimes I don’t even try to make that connection.

Essentially, if you put us all together at a formal dinner, I would be the one showing up in clown shoes and a big red nose.

Nevertheless, I am deeply honored that LexisNexis and their community would extend this designation to me. I thank them, as well as all of my readers who have been so supportive over the life of this blog. I will certainly endeavor to earn the honor already bestowed.

Personally, I like clown shoes and big red noses, Bob! I enjoy your remarks so much, it lightens the mood and keeps us from taking ourselves to seriously! As I often tell my employers, "it's only workers' comp, it's not brain surgery!"
